Episode 143 – animals and anthros in roleplaying games
* A big thanks to the guys at The Core gaming shop in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
* Things that wouldn’t work as roleplaying games. Apparently clips of The Letter People aren’t hard to find.
* Playing animals or anthropomorphic animals in a roleplaying game. You can see a picture of the guy that inspired this show on our forums.

First clip is of Mr T… I can remember having @%#!# nightmares as a kid because of that puppet. Heh.
Haven’t listened yet, but I hate speaking anphropomorphic animals.
That is why I wont watch cartoons and I will never buy a Nintendo. What is it with Nintendo? We have a space shooting game, I know what will make it better. We’ll make the main character a sodding fox. Arse!
In case no one else has mentioned it, there have been two RPGs based on Watershipdown. First was Bunnies and Barrows and then there was a GURPS manual based on it.
Also, I remember some RPG which I believe was called Mechanoids (I think there were two versions) where after the aliens conquered earth, the surviving humans had to sneak aboard the alien starships and become the equivalent of rats abourd one of our naval vessels.
Off the top of my head, I can think of one quasi generic anime game that isn’t just a rule set intended to make it possible to run a specific genre (like BESM. While you can run a mashup BESM game, it had better be Project A-Ko or Excel Saga style comedic)
Teenagers from Outer Space is a quasi generic high school anime setting, and it worked realatively well.
Oh and Toon actually handles Anime style games on the less angsty side of anime very well.
I would so play a rats of nihm game.
Wow. I haven’t thought of the Letter People since I left first grade. My teacher had posters of them all over the room. It was like an invasion of Muppet Cenobites or something.
A comment in regards to medical dramas as an RPG and the majority of us not being able to stand up to the medical techno-babble and whatnot… ask any real doctor, the medical dramas don’t either. They are so horribly off it’s not even funny; I’m no doctor and I can nitpick heck out of something like House. I read somewhere, I think it was in the paper a while back (and we all know newspapers never lie XD ), that said medical students coming out of med school now who have watched a ton of ER, House, whatever, are actually doing procedures wrong because that’s how it was done on the show.
Shows that do not work as RPGs.. I have 2 words for ya: Cop Rock
