I have actually played under a GM who let me create a character that would fail. I was trying to work with a idea that the GM mentioned before, but had changed his mind about without telling anyone.

This reminds me of the first time I saw monstrous characters play in D&D 3e. None of us saw the rule that said monstrous characters keep their hit dice and calculate that as part of their character level. Like here, the monstrous characters wiped the floor with everything, mostly because they were effectively much higher level characters than they should have been. And druids are just OP, assuming that’s what Dave was playing.

Yep, d&d 3,4,5 edition is absolutely a high powered fantasy game and will not work with attempts to make dangerous worlds or stories.
