Ah, I've tried the various open source alternative apps, but mostly as exercises to see what they were like. I've been using the main Adobe workhorses pretty much since each was in its rollout phase, but I can't offer any specific help with Scribus, Inkscape or the GIMP.

No worries. I'll eventually get InDesign also and if I have any adobe questions, I know you'll be my go-to.

CARD GAME UPDATE

GOOD NEWS
Recently I overcame my difficulties with Scribus so the file for Deck 1 is up and I have a proof copy on the way! If that looks good I’ll go live with it and make an announcement to that effect as soon as it does!

PLAY TESTING
I said that was going to happen this week and I failed to deliver. I made the mistake of banking on the successful efforts of future me, which did a fair amount of crit failing and saving throws. My apologies. The time I would have spent crushing it was instead spent banging my head into a wall repeatedly and punishing my dice.

So what does this mean for the immediate future? The dummy hosts are already well put together, so the next few days will be spent learning to put a working copy of the game into Tabletop Simulator. When this happens, I will THEN make the announcement for playtesting as I should have done in the first place. Again, my bad.

THE (STILL VERY) TENTATIVE TIMETABLE
I’m aiming for the first set of host cards to be done in the next week or two and the second deck to be done and hopefully live by the end of May. I’m then aiming for the second set of host cards to be done by mid-June. Also, There has been enough response that I will also make a third deck which I’m planning to have by August.

So, overall good progress, just very slow progress.

Thanks you as always for your continued patience, enthusiasm, and support.

Guys, the proof copy of Deck 1 arrived in the mail today. It's here. It's real. It's legit. It's everything I dared hope for.
Check out a short album of it here: https://imgur.com/a/gpt6z5c

CARD GAME UPDATE:
I Have the game in Tabletop Simulator for real this time!
I will be hosting playtests in the community Discord for anyone that wants to help or is curious for the first 8 host cards all this week, starting tonight.

I have rules drawn up! This was something I completely overlooked before, so am amending now.
These are subject to change/edits at any time, but the album will be the same. There are folks I've specifically tapped for feedback, but anyone is welcome to view them here:

These will later be turned into Cards (included with the game) and a (free to download) PDF.

If all goes well, the first deck and first set of host cards will go live early next week.

Thank you for your enthusiasm and support

CARD GAME UPDATE

WHERE WERE YOU?
Dealing with physical and mental health issues, technical and learning curve challenges, and revising and testing the game rules. With all those being the case, I pushed forward to work on the art for Deck 2. I don’t like to give updates empty-handed so I waited till now to say something.

SO WHERE ARE WE AT NOW?
Deck 1 and Deck 2 are done! The rules are done and as good as I can get them. With that, I’ve got them print ready and have sent away for the Proof Copies of Decks 1&2 today! Processing will take 3-5 business days to print and about a week to ship, so two weeks altogether. While I’m waiting on them, I’ll put together the pint and play version of the game, as well as a pdf copy of the rules. This means by the time the proofs get back, if they look good, we’ll be ready to go live!

WHAT’S NEXT?
Having squared all that away, I’ll turn my attention back to the Host cards. Assuming the art for them doesn’t take too long, we may have them finished soon! Tentatively, I’m shooting to have Official copies of everything live and ready to play by Halloween.

If everything stays on track, then this project, essentially the Dave Chapell of card games, will finally come home!
Regular updates will be resuming.

Thank you once again to everyone for their patience, support and enthusiasm!

CARD GAME UPDATE
-------------------------------

Sorry I let last week go by without catching you guys up. Here’s where we’re at:

THE BAD(ISH) NEWS
When putting together the Print n Play versions, I caught a clerical error where I had accidentally used a prior iteration of a couple of the crunchier cards where the language wasn’t as clear. I then went into the files, made the necessary corrections and threw in a couple of flavor bits I had been vacillating on. I then needed to update print files and re-order proofs. The new proofs should be arriving by the end of this week. If that’s the case, I will make a post at that time.

THE GOOD NEWS
While the new proofs make their way here, I finished up the Print and Play versions of Decks 1&2 as well as Rules Only and Large Print Rules in PDF format. All of witch will be available for free from the store front, so if you are broke, or can’t wait, or would just love to make a collage, then I’ve got you covered.

THE OTHER GOOD NEWS
The Host cards are proceeding apace and if I can keep this schedule, then I’m aiming to be done by the end of next week. At that time , I will order proofs for them. The core game will be available if not in your hands by Halloween, and the Host Cards should, tentatively, go live by early November.

Thank you for your continued enthusiasm and support

CARD GAME UPDATE
-------------------------------

THE RESULTS ARE IN
The proofs are in. The print quality is gorgeous. Everything I wanted to achieve artistically and mechanically is there. The Forum Users - the point of the entire game - all look really good.

Ah, but there’s a goof: in the center right of the cards is a small sign labeled with a 1.1 or a 1.2. The first number refers to the core game, the second number its iteration. I designed it both as a quick way to tell decks apart if someone didn't know the architecture, or in my case forgot it, and as a placeholder in case later I design an expansion that is meant to integrate with a core deck. Three Kickers have a mislabeled iteration. On Deck 2, it’s Oh Snap; on Deck 1 it’s Spam Bot and - appropriately - Your Shipment of Fail Has arrived.

After a lot of careful consideration, I came to a conclusion:

THE VERDICT
Fuck it -- we’ll do it LIVE!

Even as the small hex glares hot, piercing judgment at me from the card face, I also know that changing the file would trigger the demand for a new proof and would result in a further pushing back of a product that is already way past due. The Mona Lisa has an inconsistent background. Toy Story has a foundational plot error. While not operating on that level, I think it’s fair as a precedent to say “close enough”.

I think I can and should patch that out, but I’m going to wait until after the holidays when doing so will minimize the chance of the fix result in me making further mistakes.

In the meantime, a victory lap on a flat tire is still winning.

SO WITH ALL THAT SAID…
IT’S HERE! IT’S REAL! IT’S LIVE -- COME AND GET IT!

Work will continue on the Host Cards and future updates will focus on them. .

Thank you all so much! I love you and am grateful for this community and to have you in my life.
