I finally decided to give a version of D&D more recent than the original AD&D a try, and concurrently decided to seek out RPG related podcasts. Having found such a long-established cast as FtB is a treasure indeed, as I'm time travelling back and get to follow the evolution of the show and cast over more than ten years, but in lightning quick fashion. Fun!! (And what a welcome distraction from this freakshow of a year.)
By way of introduction, I played a bunch of rpgs back in the nascent days of popularity, the early 80s, and had a brief involvement in a 2e D&D group of 20somethings back in the late 90s. I'd love to get back into playing again now that I'm about to (gasp) have our youngest young'un leave for college and will have LOTS of time to fill, not to mention that my wife will enjoy me not being constantly underfoot with no ferrying and school activities to keep me out of the house. I'm somewhat mortified that the rpg world has passed me by, so I'm going to listen to AllThePodcasts my ears can hold and familiarize myself with 5e until I feel like I'll more or less know what I'm doing again, some 37 years after I first became an insufferable know it all teenage gamer.
I'm loving the podcast through ep 26 so far, and when I've listened to another hundred or so I'll pop down to Third Eye Comics and look for a group to join.
