Thing 3 challenged me to try to solve "The World's Hardest Sudoku Puzzle" on Monday evening during dinner.

I completed it this evening.

Doesn't the difficulty of a sudoku puzzle scale infinitely with the size of the board, and so it's not possible for there to be a hardest one? Or is this specifically the hardest 9x9?

Also do I get to be equally smug if I write a computer program that can solve it in less than a few seconds?

I think that's more or less what its creator said too.

Why would you spend countless hours writing a program to solve a problem that you can google the answer to in a less than a minute?

I'm a little insulted you think it would take me countess hours to throw together a pretty straightforward backtracking algorithm.

I'm glad you feel insulted. You earned it.
