I played Persona 5 with the English cast, and since the anime has only subtitles, I cannot watch it. That's not "my" Ann.

I sometimes play English voices and subtitles in games if I cannot hear them very well (because kids), or if I feel like it'll help me focus.

Yeah I do native language with subs when a game is from a country, and is set in that country.

So then what do you think you'll do with Ghost of Tsushima? (if there's even an option)

Probably English since it was made by an American studio.

I always do sub on everything that isn't in English if it's available. Now days it's not so bad but way back in the day all of the English dubs were done by low paid interns or bored porn actors. The quality was looooooooooowwwwwww....

They also tended to change the dialogs in dubs to Americanize and thus dumbing it down or sanitizing out stuff like sexuality or drinking. Many times the subs were more of a straight translation for whatever reason. And, oh lordy, the long stretches of dialog in Japaneses that were a lot faster say in English so they would dub in some scheechy voice 'actor' going,"HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BIIIIIGGGGGGGGG BROOOOOOTTHHHHER!! come here please. YYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! *slight bow* hello. "

Now days I don't think the quality is as shit but I go for the subs. I even prefer subs on Kung Fu movies even thought the bad dubbing is considered a draw for some and the fact the what you are hearing might be an over dub of a different dialect anyway.

Another thing to consider are slavishly accurate transliterations of foreign languages. They seem to offend me less in subs than in dubs but I hate them everywhere.

I forgot about hating this for the last ten years or so and then the FF7 remake final trailer came out. Hoooooo. The dialogue sounds like what you would get if you asked a smart ten year old to write what cool adults sound like. It's probably accurate to the Japanese, and nothing is a grammatical error, but it doesn't sound like English as it's spoken by any real person anywhere.

I'm kinda basic this way but when I consume a movie/tv show I do it for the story or the cinematography. If the former I'll probably be multitasking with something up in a different window and not even looking at the video. If the later I'm watching the imagery. Either way subs are a distraction from what I'm trying to do. Do I prefer dubs. No, I just will tend to grab them as I get what I need from it without distraction.
