I can't believe I'm the only one living in a concrete dwelling.

Well, if the county hadn’t made me move out if my bomb shelter! Okay, it wasn’t a bomb shelter so much as an abandoned length of cement culvert, but still...

My region has good brick mud and, at the time my building was constructed in the nineteen-teens, our nearby major city was roaring out industrial production and sending bricks everywhere.

Everything in my city is brick unless it's really new or really trying to be architecturally interesting (i.e. the capitol building, the local art-deco monstrosity office).

Is that common in Iceland, or do you live in an unusual building?

Almost every house is concrete over here.

That would explain it then. Here almost every house is brick. In the USA most seem to be made of wood (plus other materials for foundations and cladding etc.)

A lot of newer construction in the uk is timber frames with brick cladding, rather than brick construction. It’s cheaper and faster, both things which your average shoddy builder prefers. One thickness of brick over a timber and drywall inner is much easier to use semi-skilled labour for than a proper cavity wall with bricks both sides, and much easier to insulate to the degree practically demanded nowadays. It’s all of a piece with the demands for cheaper everything and hang the quality, much like the sudden decision to allow non-syphon toilets. Doing it right is cheaper in the long run, but has a higher upfront cost.

I'm going to have to put Brick. I just had to update my personal property tax info and while I was on the site I looked up the property, says the building type is just brick.

Wood, 1/2 cement foundation, with a sizable amount of glass.

I'm surprised that glass and steel aren't showing. Does no one live in a trailer park? That's good, I suppose. But it also means that no one lives in a high-rise penthouse, either.
