soliciting D&D 5E questions

Postby Dan » Wed Sep 30, 2015 12:28 pm

We were contacted by one of the rules consultants from D&D 5E, so I'm going to line up an interview. You guys got any questions you want answered or specific thoughts you want him to address?

Should questions be limited specifically to rules questions or will they be able to answer questions about the settings, products, future strategy, etc.?

If it's who I think it is, good catch. I'd mostly like to hear about rule design philosophy, since a list of specific rulings would be tedious if they don't affect you.

I'd also like to hear a general talk about what discoveries were made during play testing and how the game mechanics evolved from that.

Top 5e myths he would dispel. I.e., what are the most common misinterpretations he has to "correct".

Not sure that it is exactly a question, but a conversation on the philosophy of scaling HP vs scaling Armor Class.

ooh, I got one!

If I remember right, if both your class and your background grant training in the same skill inherently, you are allowed to pick any other skill instead. Was there a reason they didn't limit the choice of what the "free" skill would be?

Why the hell aren't Kobolds one of the standard player races?

But the serious answer is: they are bad guys. D&D is a game about heroes. Sure you can make a hero of a gnoll or a kobold, but these are hardly standard.
