Can't reach Fear the Boot with my phone

Postby FireVisor » Sat Jul 30, 2016 2:34 pm

It's sad that my first post will be about FtB not working. But...

Have you made any changes to the sige recently? I can't reach it with my phone anymore.
The feed on my podcast manager gives an error and the website in my browser as well.

I should trouble shoot the phone first, but has anyone else had problems like this?

Phone is an HTC desire.

Anyway!
Thanks for a great show guys.

Okay, I just tested it on my phone (Android using Fire Fox Mobile), the site works and I was able to play the podcast from the mobile browser.

A couple of questions:

1. What are the errors you are seeing on both your browser and podcast manager?

2. What pods cast manager are you using?

3. I see you are using an Android phone, what browser are you using (it's possible that it might be called just 'Internet')?

I am using BeyondPod, the error message is IOexception - SSL handshake failure: I/O error during system call, Connection reset by peer.

The browser is indeed 'Internet' and the error message for the site is 'A secure connection could not be established'

The fault likely lies somewhere with my phone. I guess I should try to reset something...

I'm unable to access Fear the Boot from my iPad and my desktop. My phone is working for now, but I'm kind of expecting it to quit at any moment. I've tested in Chrome and Opera, and both of them throw an error of expired certificate. The switch to https isn't going smoothly. Come to think of it, this is probably why my podcatcher isn't registering episode 409 being out...

Add me as someone who can't access via desktop. Firefox and IE failed me, but iPod's Safari managed to get me here.

Firefox wrote:Secure Connection Failed

An error occurred during a connection to http://www.feartheboot.com. Peer's Certificate has been revoked. Error code: SEC_ERROR_REVOKED_CERTIFICATE

  • The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
  • Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.

I sent Dan an email last night, and now I'm bugging everybody here today while I try to find a way to force Firefox to let me in anyway. So far nothing Google suggested has done me a damn bit of good.

Chad tells me via Facebook that he's looking into it.

I'm also unable to subscribe to the podcast via the Downcast app. I think that part of the problem is with the GoDaddy.com cert being used. GoDaddy is also the signing authority, and apparently the root cert was not on my iPhone. I was able to install the cert bundle from GoDaddy onto my iPhone, and this let me subscribe to the podcast via the built-in Podcast app (which I don't use) but not with my Downcast app (which I strongly prefer).

If I can find a better solution, I'll post a follow-up; here is the documentation I could find:

YMMV, especially as I still haven't gotten Downcast to load the podcast feed.

It doesn't seem to be a problem with my phone.

Both Firefox and Chrome fail to get me to the site with even my laptop.

Hope this gets resolved, I am missng out on the boot fright. ;)

Dan's working on it. Should be fixed fairly soon, he knows what's gone wrong.
