Wait a minute! Where were you last December, night of the 24th?
I knew I could count on you guys to hit all the right jokes!
The bear was going around the academic symposium I am on the committee for (Life, the Universe, & Everything) getting his picture taken with a lot of the guests and other committee members.
And yes. I bear a striking resemblance to the general cultural consensus of what Santa Claus looks like. Enough so that I am banking on my looks as a retirement plan. About a decade ago, I had a conversation with a gentleman who looked like Santa at a National Park in Utah. He told me that if you are a flesh-n-blood Santa (no fake beard or belly, tall, blue eyes) who has been trained, you can earn five figures for working two months - more if you get the high profile gigs in big cities. Ten months of the year, he drove his RV around the country, seeing his kids & grandkids, visiting new places, doing what he wants. He works hard for two months. The money he earns doing that supplements his retirement income from SS and IRAs. He said it's not a job for everyone. I've played Santa before (at local Church/work events and one charity gig) and enjoy it a lot. So... someday.
OK. Not really banking. I have retirement accounts that should support me in my old age and if SS is still around, that will help.
