Write or Die

Postby zircher » Wed Sep 23, 2015 3:10 pm

Argh, writer's block on one of my projects. So I'm trying to follow some advice I heard.
Keep on writing!

Cross posted from another forum about Channel A, the anime pitch party game...
------------

Since it was on my over due to-do list...

[Deals three premise cards]
Space War, Science Fiction Epic, Steampunk

Oh, good ones! Hmm, the fictional producer selects [rattle, rattle] steampunk!

[Deals ten title cards]
Shining, Air, Alien, Cosmic, Samurai,
2nd Stage, Monkey, God, Drive, Gun

[The Pitch]
Samurai Guns is the story of two worlds clashing. In 1877, Imperial Japan strives to modernize. This modern Japan is in the growing pangs of converting to steam power and industrialization. The majority of Samurai are being absorbed into government roles such as the police force. But, many warriors are outraged at being marginalized and stripped of their status. Things reach a boiling point when the government tries to remove the weapons in one of their own arsenals. Instead of disarming the situation, this has the opposite effect and rebels break into the arsenal and steal the weapons. In this cache, the rebels find a scroll that gives them the secret of binding demonic Oni to their armor. This evolves into an arms races between magically enhanced Samurai and the guns of Imperial Japan. As the Samurai/Oni advance of the capital, the Emperor is forced to call in foreign aid in the form of steam-mecha. Surprisingly enough, Prussia, America, Britain, and France have all been waiting for this moment. Each has mecha that they're just chomping at the bit to unleash and gain the favor of the Imperial government. Chaos ensues in a battle royale on the streets of 1870's Tokyo.

Samurai and Gun

[Draw new title cards]
Magical Girl and Seed

[Deal three premise cards]
Street Culture, England, Ecological

[ratttle, rattle] The Producer demands a show about something ecological!

[The Pitch]
God Seed: 2nd Stage - Nineteen years ago a meteor struck near Bejing. While dramatic, the losses were minimal. That was until the Chinese tried to recover it. The crew never came back. A second crew was sent to investigate and there was only one survivor. Something was growing in the impact crater. It was alive, it was active, it was hungry. Dubbed the God Seed, this meteor was rapidly devouring or transforming all life that came in contact with it. Conventional forces could barely contain it, chemical and nuclear strikes did not stop it. Every spring there is a new 'offensive' from the invading plants and animals. Dr. Steve Zhang thinks he's found a way to mask humans and stop the Seedlings from viciously attacking them. With the help of the JSDF, a team of scientists and soldiers are being assembled to investigate the alien threat and make it to ground zero before the meteor enters its second stage of evolution.

God, Seed, 2nd Stage

[Draw new title cards]
Double, UFO, Dream

[Deal three premise cards]
Dolls, Utopia, Kid Detective

[rattle, rattle] The Producer says, "Gripping story of survival and discovery there. But, we need something lighter for the youths *cough* and marketing. Got any ideas for Dolls?"

[The Pitch]
The Shining Dream is the tale of four young working women trying to make it big in doll making, singing, cos-play, and voice acting. Their lives inter-weave with the people around them as we see inside of these highly creative and competitive passions. Will they have the drive to make it to the big leagues or will their shining dreams tarnish with the reality and drama of every day life? Follow this slice of life show and find out!

Dream and Shining

[Draw new title cards]
Lancer and (blank)

[Deal three premise cards]
Psychological Horror, Psychic Powers, Agriculture

[rattle, rattle] Agriculture! That's the new hot topic. The Greenies will eat it up.

Kedamono wrote:[My pitch]
Lancers: In a world where psionics are real, how do you deal with those individuals whose grasp of reality is tenuous at best and can inflict their version of reality on others? Enter the newest superpsi team Lancers!
Lead by the indomitable psi, Kai Wilson, the team hunt down those rouge psis that have terrorized the people of Japan! But all is not well. Someone is manipulating, even creating these rouge psis. Only known as the FARM, this mysterious force is planning something for Japan. Something insidious.

Home grown terrorists, eh? I like the combined premise.

[Discard all premise cards and...]
Lancer

[Draw new title cards]
Burst

[Deal five premise cards and use two]
Boys Love, Banana, Political Satire, Coming of Age, Moeblob*

* Super sweet kid stuff like the Strawberry Shortcake show

[rattle, rattle] Coming of Age and Banana, the show is by Chicita Bananas, so nothing too perverted, please!

[The Pitch]
Magical Monkey Girl is the sweet story of Hitomi. She's a little girl that's living on her grandparent's farm during the summer school break while her busy parents focus on their careers in the big city. She packed a few things for her trip; a lap top, a cell phone, and her imaginary friend, Kong. Together, Kong and Hitomi explore the countryside, examine human relationships, talk to animals, and generally have adventures that only a lazy summer afternoon can offer. Curious Kong is always trying to score some bananas when he isn't climbing something with Hitomi in close pursuit. Think Calvin and Hobbes meets Curious George with a dash of Dora the Explorer and you'll begin to see the wonderful world through Hitomi's eyes and heart.

[New draw and current hand]
UFO, Alien, Double, Drive, Air, Cosmic, Burst, [blank], Prince, -chan (a diminutive suffix)

[Premise cards, draw five, roll for two]
Alien babes, Police, Nihilistic, Samurai, Sentai (teams of color coded heroes)

[rattle, rattle] Alien babes and Samurai

[The Pitch]
Cosmic Prince: Alien Guard, in the far future humanity and many alien races live side by side. Vast territories are controlled by many royal families which are perpetually in conflict with each other. Cosmic Prince Arturo is on a diplomatic mission far from home when the dagger of betrayal strikes his family. Arturo manages to escape with the help of his bodyguards. The Prince's protectors are the Alien Guard, his hand pick cadre of alien babes who are deadly as they are beautiful and exotic. In this far future, personal defense technology is at its peak. Most armor or personal force fields are bullet and blaster proof. This has lead to a resurgence of hand weapons and martial arts. Follow Arturo's flight as he and the Alien Guard fight their way to freedom.

[New draw and current hand]
UFO, Double, Drive, Air, Burst, -chan, Creamy, Bugglegum, Rune, Metal

[Premise cards, draw five, roll for two]
Harem, Travel Between Worlds, Cafe, Delinquents, Card Game

[rattle, rattle] Travel and Delinquents

[The Pitch]
Bubblegum UFO - Ari, Kai, and their friends were used to ditching class. They decide to check out the newest arcade in town only to find out that it secretly an alien research project. After a chain of highly unlikely events, the researchers find themselves stranded on Earth and the kids have taken their UFO. Rule number one, never activate the hyper drive without setting a course. Now this gang of misfits and delinquents with the aid of the alien janitor, Qix Martin, must find their way back home in a big crazy galaxy.

[New draw and current hand]
Double, Drive, Air, Burst, -chan, Creamy, Rune, Metal, Idol, Area

[Premise cards, draw five, roll for two]
Racing, Military, Girls Love, Monster Hunters, Government

[rattle, rattle] Military and Girls Love (Oh my!)

[The Pitch]
Metal Idol: Double Drive - Is a spin off of the Pacific Rim franchise, Japan is on the bloody edge of the war against the monsters. Metal Idol might look feminine, but it is one fierce Jaeger. The new crew, Jane Hayes and Natsumi Watabe must learn to fight together. But, each time they Drift, they find their thoughts drifting not towards fighting the war but to being in each others arms. It's very distracting with just as much tension inside the cockpit as out. Can these two sort out their personal lives and where it conflicts with military duty? Innocent lives and hearts hang in the balance (as well as some confused boyfriends.)

[New draw and current hand]
Air, Burst, -chan, Creamy, Rune, Area, Eater, Chronicle, Channel, Exorcist

[Premise cards, draw five, roll for two]
Versailles, Super Robots, Drama, Business, Vampires

[rattle, rattle] Business and Vampires

[The Pitch]
There's an old saying, "You can't excel at business and not lose your soul." They're more right than they know. Rune Eater: The Exorcist Chronicles takes us from the dark alleys to the bright penthouses of high finance. Forget everything you know about vampires. Real vampires use rune magic to feed. Sure, there is the blood rune. But, different vampires can feed on sex, greed, corruption, or a host of other runes. Rune magic does comes at a price, but for these people... well they didn't have much need for a soul to begin with. Down in the streets, Kane is stalking these predators. He's an ex-priest with his own cross to bear. Because it takes a monster to catch a monster. Kane is... the Rune Eater.

[New draw and current hand]
Air, Burst, -chan, Creamy, Area, Channel, Ultimate, Half, Legend, Rider

[Premise cards, draw five, roll for two]
Fighting Tournament, Real Robots (semi-realistic), Grotesque Aliens, Wrestling, Cyborgs

[rattle, rattle] Grotesque Aliens and Wrestling

[The Pitch]
Grotesque creatures from beyond the stars threaten Humanity. The military can't stop them, the CIA is powerless, the President might be one of them. What can you do against this squamous and rugose threat? Why watch the ULTIMATE LEGEND CHANNEL! Gasp as legendary wrestler JOHN CENA bursts on to the stage to take down these horrors as only John Cena can. Only fearless John Cena knows the secret FIVE MOVES OF DOOM needed to repel the alien menace. Will humanity be spared? Tune in and find out!

[yeah, slow day today...]

[New draw and current hand]
Air, Burst, -chan, Creamy, Area, Half, Rider, Angelic, Maid, Nanaka

[Premise cards, draw five, roll for two]
Cross Dressing, Post Apocalyptic, Martial Arts, Surreal, Gun Action

[rattle, rattle] Cross Dressing and Gun Action

[The Pitch]
The trail of revenge is long and twisted for Angelic Rider. Kati Winchester wakes up from a fever to find that her frontier family has been killed by renegades on the run. The trail leads to a dying man, a Texas Ranger. He tells her that this is no job for a woman and then passes away. Kati agrees, she cuts her hair and 'borrows' the Ranger's badge and guns. Over the course of the series Kati sees the West in a different light while posing as a man. Besides tracking down the outlaws, she's also roped into acting as a lawman in order to hide her identity. Often her decisions make a difference between justice and revenge. One by one she tracks down and shoots each member of the gang. In the final confrontation with the leader, he breaks down and asks for forgiveness. Her answer is, "That's not mine to give." With a final pistol shot, she fades away like a ghost leaving nothing behind but a silver star and gunsmoke.

[New draw and current hand]
Air, Burst, -chan, Creamy, Area, Half, Maid, Nanaka, Plus, Silent

[Premise cards, draw five, roll for two]
Urban Fantasy, Giant Robot Fighting, Catgirls, Fanservice, Cooking

[rattle, rattle] Catgirls and Fanservice (of course)

[The Pitch]
Half Maid Nanaka-chan: Poor Nanaka is a young catgirl working as maid at the local cat house. She gets a lot of grief from the working catgirls since she comes from an 'underdeveloped' family (in the cleavage and economic sense.) Her not so flattering nickname is Half Made. While the fanservice is cranked up to eleven due to the setting, there is a story behind the curves. Issues of drug abuse, violence against women, and economic stress are freely mixed in with girlish mischievousness, shopping, and dreaming of a better life, in this interesting tale of an adult's world from a child's perspective.

[New draw and current hand]
Air, Burst, Creamy, Area, Plus, Silent, Victory, Ring, Eternal, Twins

[Premise cards, draw five, roll for two]
Chinese Fantasy, Heroic Thieves, Heartwarming, Slice of Life, Supernatural Battles

[rattle, rattle] Supernatural Battles and Slice of Life

(that's an interesting mix)

[The Pitch]
Max stretched on the window sill, soaking up the magic rays of the sun in preparation for the night. Chasing mice, catching crickets, fighting off supernatural evil of all kinds, such is a house cat's life. Silent Victories is the story of Max, a normal cat in a normal house with far too many ghosts, demons, and boogymen. Scenes of Max's life include playing, grooming, and just being a cat, but at night the view changes to cat vision and we see the world as Max does. Discover the hidden foes, learn the secrets of cat magic, and enjoy Max's silent victories as he tries to keep his family safe.

[New draw and current hand]
Air, Burst, Creamy, Area, Plus, Ring, Eternal, Twins, Ultra, Muscle

[Premise cards, draw five, roll for two]
Sports, Gods, Zombies, Convention, Maids

[rattle, rattle] Maids and Gods

[The Pitch]
The Prometheus Accord demands that the Gods be 'grounded' by being paired with the soul of a mortal. The deities refer to these as Eternal Twins. The god or goddess is immortal while the spirit or soul of the mortal can travel from body to body as it dies and reincarnates. Often these mortals grow up to be powerful people on Earth. But, sometimes a god or goddess will choose a much more humble vessel in which to experience the world and stay grounded. For Poseidon, the God of Seas and Earthquakes, his current eternal twin is Emiko Ohka, a humble Japanese maid. This is all fine and dandy until Hades manages to trick Dolos into casting a spell that swaps the souls of god and mortal. Poor Emiko is now the reigning goddess of seas and earthquakes in Olympus while Poseidon is stuck with Emiko's body in modern day Tokyo. Much hijinks ensue as these two try to come to grips with the new changes and figure out how to undo the spell and thwart Hades' plan.

[New draw and current hand]
Air, Burst, Creamy, Area, Plus, Ring, Ultra, Muscle, Memories, Story

[Premise cards, draw five, roll for two]
Art Club, Cyberpunk Dystopia, Pet Monsters, Otaku, Cthulhu Mythos

[rattle, rattle] Cyberpunk Dystopia and Pet Monsters

[The Pitch]
Memories of Air, the world wide collapse of governments gave rise to the corpo-nations. The first thing they did was say the hell with environment protection. They poisoned the air in the name of progress with the side benefits of controlling populations and making a built in market for big pharma. After decades of abuse, the air pollution took its toll on our pets. The corps saw another opportunity and started designing new pets. In their blindness for more profit, they didn't realize that they were creating their own worst nightmare. In this dark (literally, most big cities are in perma-smog) future, most citizens live their lives electronically. Unless you're poor or its your job to run deliveries and fix infrastructure. You get to out-smart hyaenodon and raptor packs as you struggle in your filter mask. This is Ray's life, the first two or three episodes the audience don't even know what gender our protagonist is due to the protective clothing needed.

...(I don't think that's what the Producer meant by Pet Monsters.) Hey, I call'em as I see'em. :-)
