Seen any good movies or TV shows lately? Or anything so bad you just have to vent?

Whenever an old favorite, under-viewed film comes up on Netflix I take the opportunity to plug it.

In Bruges is a movie that's so good it makes me angry. No movie should be allowed to be so tightly scripted, so beautifully shot, and so emotionally impactful while also being so modest in scope and ambition, so funny, so sad, and so dark, and yet so charming.

It might just be the best personal drama I've ever seen and I couldn't recommend it more to just about anyone. People who like black humor and situational irony will get that, people who like effective and believable personal drama between deeply flawed and human characters get that, people who like screw-ball action get that. It's an absolutely perfect version, of precisely what it set out to be.

Go check it out.

I'm just going to take the time to second that. In Bruges is a masterpiece, and there's nothing else quite like it.

The director also made Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. I haven't seen that one yet but I loved In Bruges and Three Billboards looks really good.

His plays are deliciously fucked up.

That part is certainly never not fascinating. Sex looks very different in a forest perpetually Flooded with brackish water than on the literal bottom of the sea or half way up a mountain in the middle of the arctic tundra.
