Getting a Steam Deck!

Postby mindtakerr » Tue Jan 03, 2023 1:33 pm

I have been an almost exclusively console gamer for many many years and I am excited to finally have the chance to look into some games that I can only play on PC (or I can play without the Switch tax). Any recommendations for stuff I should check out?

The Binding of Isaac - I've always heard it's good.
Slay the Spire - I have it on Switch. Awesome.
Vampire Survivors - This game is so good.
Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX - I know you love these games. I need to check them out!
Dead Cells - Have it on Switch and PS4. Incredible.
20XX - Yes! Thank you for reminding me of this!
Hollow Knight - Put so many hours into the PS4 version.
Infernax - I have heard good things about it. Adding it to my wish list.
Rogue Legacy 2 - Definitely need to look more into this. For some reason, I've never tried the series.
Mark of the Ninja - I actually have this game on Steam from ages ago!
Tunic - YES! I need this game.

Just off the top of my head.

This is a great list!

How do they handle the CD-generated Monsters in Monster Rancher ?

They have a big database of pre-loaded CDs to choose from. It's nowhere near as fun as sorting through all my PS1 games, but it gets the job done.

And regarding Rogue Legacy 2: It's one of those sequels that is just "The first game, but better in basically every way." So, no need to try the first, now that 2 exists.

Just noticed you had responses to all the suggestions, and I'd like to add to Slay the Spire: If you played it on console, you played a lesser version, then. Because while the base game is pretty cool, what really makes it shine is the mods. There are a whole pile of good mods out there that really step the game up a lot. And even more that are absolutely garbage!

But seriously, the 'Downfall' mod in particular collects several good mods along a similar theme (making new characters out of old bosses, with the normal characters as new bosses), that it'd be worth paying for.

Oh! Thanks for that! I haven’t thought of that. I will look into that more!
