The trees aren't too densely packed where you stand. Not quite a clearing, the undergrowth is nonetheless manageable underfoot for at least a 120 ft. radius, a roughly egg-shaped patch surrounded by rougher foliage on all sides. You've been following a well-traveled game trail that cuts through the clearing lengthways, and you're closer to the end of the clearing ahead than behind.

The canopy is thick, creating a solid roof above your head between 20-30 ft. above the ground. Although many of the trees have lower branches, there isn't enough light in this particular region for them to grow healthy; although it hasn't rained during your journey so far, everything is tinged with damp, and fungi grow as prevalently as plants in between the spars patches of sunlight that filter their way down.

You find it difficult to judge Lena's weight, her clothes obscuring much of her figure. She's probably on the light side for a female human, but that's a rough guess at best.

By the way, I feel like I've been slightly lax on an integral part of the game: XP.

Lord Foul, please take 5 bonus xp for your actions in the cave (0.5% of level up).
TaoTzu, please take 10 bonus xp, 5 each for cleaning off your clothes and for discovering your physical issues (each 0.5% of level up).

Edit: In hindsight, both Fallout and Melody gain an additional 10 bonus xp to their 'advancement' award of leaving Cyr Dannog and Buruk-Dur respectively, as the things they did while there were more important that I initially gave them credit for. Both were calculated at the milestone (40 xp, 0.5% of level up x8) + 20 xp for tasks done while there (0.5% of level up x4)

Lord Foul, for surviving this encounter which has concluded upon your leaving (I'd do this after your post, but I don't want to lose my workings out and have to do it all over again) you gain 445 xp.

Additionally, 40 bonus xp for not getting captured (0.5% of level up x8) and 14 bonus xp both for your critical hit and your use of the wand, both of which definitely impacted the encounter (1% of total encounter xp x2 for each) for a total of 513 xp.

How exciting! I believe Melody has just gone up a level.

I have updated the XP log on Obsidian Portal to add these changes and new awards.

Can you roll me Melody's new hit die please? She's going to become a 1st level Wizard. :D

Let me know when I can update other stuff.

So... according to your rules, does that become a 3 (-1 for CON) = 2?

I guess it depends on how you interpret "half" a hit die. A d4 can roll 1, 2, 3 or 4, so one half is 1-2 and the other half is 3-4. Or, 2 is half of 4, of course.

I think he means half max. So a d4 has a possible maximum of 4. Half that would be 2.

There are plenty of ways to get more hit points, however, so don't fret.

Yes, I guess you're right. I'd been assuming it was setting a minimum in the upper half of the range, but mathematically the half-way point does come in the lower half. Still prevents really low rolls so I'm not complaining.

d4 no 1s
d6 no 1s or 2s
d8 no 1s or 2s or 3s
d10 no 1s or 2s or 3s or 4s
d12 no 1s or 2s or 3s or 4s or 5s

As a statistician, though, this does raise an interesting point for Arbuthnot to consider. If he's rolling a d10, say, and he rolls a 3, does he reroll it or just round it up to 5?

It sounds trifling, but it makes a big difference to the probability distribution. If he just rounds up the distribution is:
5 (50%), 6 (10%), 7 (10%), 8 (10%), 9 (10%), 10 (10%)
But if he rerolls then each possible number has an equal probability (16.7%)

Yup, it's as you both concluded, so a d4 has a range of 2-4, while a d10 has a range of 5-10.

What this means is that, for a d4, I'll roll a d6 with 1-2=2, 3-4=3 and 5-6=4. For a d10, I'll roll a d6+4. With no rounding, this ensures a fair distribution between the upper half of your HD.
