Fiasco PbF Game - You Call It

Postby DJZachLorton » Sun Jan 31, 2016 11:13 am

Who's up for playing a Fiasco session? I'm open to whatever playset you like.

Sounds like a hoot. My suggestion would be for the 'facilitator' (which can also be a player) to maintain a single post (usually the first in the thread) that contains all the assigned dice, relationships, etc. That way all the players can find the game info in the same place every time. You could even set up the 'table order' so folks know when it is their turn. Fiasco should be easy to do in PbF mode since it is turn based.

Because it is harder/slower to brain storm, I can see either rotating who responds or having the player whose turn it is call out one of the other players to set/resolve a scene. House rule question, can the person who is setting or resolving a scene create dialog for another player? It's a matter of tempo and player agency. If I can put the dialog and actions of several players in one post, the game would go much faster, but the players would lose a little control (which they would get back on their turn, of course.) We could also do the fully player controlled dialog/action thing, but that would be a slower pace as a scene might take days to play out that way.

I'd like to sit in, but if there is above average interest, I'll give my seat up to someone that has not played Fiasco before.

Sounds like a plan. I will point to the folks on RPGGeek who run several PbP games of Fiasco for examples of how to do it.

I wonder if you should have a separate OOC thread where you coordinate things and leave the actual play thread just for in character posts?

And I will point to a wonderful resource, the Fiascomputer. You can add other playsets for your own personal use. Sadly, at this time you can't share the setup, but it does allow you to do a quick setup and then copy the results elsewhere.

I forgot I'd started this thread. D'oh!

I played Fiasco last weekend using the Fiascomputer, and it allowed us to get right into the game. Awesome resource.

I've also been playing a PbF game on RPGGeek, and it's been going well.

So, we have at least 3 or 4 interested, right? Which playset would you all like to play?

That can work, but once the ball gets rolling, it's just as easy to keep things in the same thread.

That's an option. If players are willing to give up the interactivity, this could work. I personally like interactivity between players. Yes, it takes longer (I'm still playing in one PbF game that started last summer), but it could work.

Another way to find a middle ground would be to hash out the details via a chat engine (Facebook messaging, for instance), then post the conversation to the thread once it's done.
