Kyle is back up to his current max after the second 4, so he'll stop there. He now has only 4 potions left. He's not going to bother searching for Mistiltein just yet, but will draw Thrangnir instead and remain with Sven to guard him against anything still posing a threat.

Hengis' plan is outlined in the OOC thread. He doesn't yet know Goldbrand is lying next to Thael, so when he finds out he will pick it up while he's there. Any additional combat bonuses will be taken unadjusted, and he also gets another +1 to hit with his favoured weapon.

He knows he's against the clock here so he won't waste any more time than necessary to locate the two people he needs. He will have to recheck the dunmer's location just before teleporting though, so he can ensure a perfect landing for Thael.

He will join in the fight just as soon as he is able, flanking with Thael to give them both an edge.

Copied from OOC thread, as it seems to be IC stuff...

He is torn between needing to support his allies against the dunmer, and keeping the ruler safe from mishap. As weak and broken as the man is, he might be essential toward preventing further bloodshed.
If nothing happens in the next minute, no dark elf shows his head, no orders or pleas come from his friends, Qadir will go hunting for the Jarl and the mercs. He will attempt to put these thoughts in the forefront of his mind, in case he is "touched" by Hengis.

Hengis can detect the Jarl, the mercenaries, each of his companions, and several legionaries still living in the rubble as well as ten or so who are dumbfounded in the courtyard. He also senses Goldbrand next to Thael. He does not detect the dunmer.

Qadir finds the Jarl easily enough, shoved somewhat violently into a corner and shielded bodily from harm by the mercenaries charged with his protection.

Hengis lets out a roar of frustration, his fist clenched as he gives vent to the pent up anger inside him.

He flies down to Thaelestra anyway, and quickly briefs her on his plan... if only he can locate their enemy!

He'll cast the fly spell on her. Then spend another round scanning around from that location, in case the dunmer is nearer to this place.

Then, if he still finds no trace of the dunmer, he'll pick up Goldbrand.

Holding the sword up he says:

"WELL, WHAT HAVE YE TAE SAY FER YERSELF? YE SET US AGIN ONE ANOTHER WI' NAE REGARD FER OUR LOYALTY AND SERVICE TAE YE. WHAT D'YE EXPECT O' ME NOO, AFTER THAT BETRAYAL?"

He's making no attempt to conceal his anger at her mistreatment of him and the other priest.

Thael uncurls from her crouch as she spots that it is Hengis who is there. Upon hearing the plan she nods, ready to take to the air.

"If he was down here, we'd have heard him." She nods her head to the still standing part of the room they were in. "Let us find him."

If it looks like Hengis is going to leave the sword lie, Thael will shake her head, "Best not to let him backtrack to it." She grabs at a scrap of dining room linen that lay near the sword, preparing to wrap it up and throw it in her backpack.

Aha! Cunning plan no.42 coming up...

Hengis calms a little after his outburst (allowing an opportunity for a response from Boethiah if she cares enough to make one), his keen mind working on ways to find the dunmer...

Then he remembers that seemingly useless 2nd level domain spell he is forced to carry... Locate Object... and he recalls the distinctive holy symbol the dunmer was wearing...

The dunmer releases his golden amulet to clink against his breastplate, its icon of Boethiah glinting in the candlelight of the chandelier overhead.

Ha! The irony is not lost on him. He gives a sudden laugh and casts the spell, concentrating on visualising the holy symbol around the dunmer's neck as he saw it only a short time ago.

Oh, and he's not planning to leave Goldbrand behind. He fully intends to test its edge on a certain dunmer, first chance he gets.

The dust has thinned now enough that you can all see each other by outline at least.

Boethiah's voice does answer, coming from the blade itself: "You've lost your way, Hengis. My followers cast down kings, yet you seem to have a way of seeking them out to follow. Look on your ward--this mad jarl. What do you suppose will be the lot of the people under his rule?

"The emperor," she says, the word dripping with contempt, "exploits a child here. Ulfric exploits a senile and paranoid old man. In either case, the people suffer. Your people. You take part in these schemes because you think yourself clever. You dare to ask a god to fathom your vast wisdom in these matters. Why? Because if you continue to ingratiate yourself to him and legitimize him and restore him, Ulfric will allow my followers to practice in the open? Practice what?

"My true followers spit on the permission of kings.

"Behead this 'jarl' and unseat his nephew. Hang the legion oppressors of Falkreath. Give Ulfric the blood eagle, and crucify the Emperor. Burn the Thalmor alive. I am the lord, your god."

Hengis' spell detects the dunmer's amulet about 20' below, moving east. Presumably via some secret tunnel.

Hengis is completely sobered by the words of his 'god', who for the first time has shown him unequivocably just what a monster she is. He feels his whole world fragmenting around him. How could he have been so misguided? What the fuck does he do now? He built the path to free worship at her behest (see p239 for details), but now she scorns it. She clearly doesn't want her faith to become accepted. It's very foundation rests upon strife against rulers, no matter whether they be noble or ignoble. The dawning realisation that he is on the wrong side strikes him like a blow.

In short, Hengis has just lost his faith.

I'm really not sure what the game implications of that are.

If his spells are still working he'll look at Thaelestra and say: "HE'S ESCAPING VIA AN UNDERGROUND TUNNEL. ARE YE UP FER FINISHIN' THIS?"

If she consents he'll move behind her and place a hand on her shoulder, crouching as he casts a Dimension Door to a position just in front of the location of the amulet, letting her loose upon arrival. He'll have Gavel give off light before they shift so they appear in a blinding flash of light to dazzle the dunmer as Thael strikes.

The movement is incredibly quick and though Hengis has seen her do such things in battle, he is caught off guard when Thaelestra uses her gauntlet to smack the sword away from his hands. Hands which may have been just barely holding on.

As he turns to face her, she wraps him in a tight hug. Her right hand finding his own which is reflexively touching Gavel. She covers his hand, intertwining slightly as she touches the hammer as well.

“I follow the man. Not the symbol. Not the country. Not the ruler. I follow Hengis of Scone. You have not lost your way.” There is a slight pause before she continues, “Your vision is a beacon of hope to all who you share it with, and it is as unwavering and dauntless as you are.” Her words are soft and light, a sharp contrast to the hard as steel exterior that she portrays to the outside.

She turns slightly, her forehead touching his lightly. “Let us find this man. We shall end this and help the people here know what it is like to taste freedom.” Her hand squeezes the top of his, "Use the weapon that has never faultered for you, a gift from someone who clearly appreciates your goal."
