Interesting, indeed. It's very preliminary. There's no control to account for a "bad batch", especially since some of the dice were specifically bought as a set. Still, i do have a pair of casino dice somewhere...

Yeah they did some physical dice dissection of the outliers in search of some manufacturing errors which they did find and account for as best they could,

But in an ideal world they should have built a control by buying clear dice so they could visually inspect each one and then meticulously weigh and measure them to make sure the weight distribution was as consistent as possible.

The sample size however was probably(?) large enough, and the results stark enough, for a lot of the outliers and anomalies to get mostly "consumed" by the standard variance so to speak.

Also you can bet the research from the casino's is pretty damn extensive because they have every financial incentive to make their dice as close to truly random as possible, since casino games are about more than just rolling high/low. I would love to be able to see it xD

Oh yeah, I'm sure the casino dice test is rigorous and professional, and probably linked to a manufacturing QA procedure.
"a cube of 36 chessex dice" is really a single anecdotal data point, though. 30 cubes of chessex dice would be better, especially if they were sourced to different runs.
That being said, the variance from random is so great that we can infer a manufacturing process that lets very poor dice slip through.

Too bad casinos don't use other polyhedra. For now, I'll stick with online rollers, and stay way from games that are overly reliant on d6s.

Now, that's a thought. How much would you have to change the games, and various other dice games such as poker, to use polyhedral dice? Would poker be "harder" or "easier" to win with, say, d8s? Would the typical game be longer or shorter?
