Game Idea: Strongman Chess

Postby tombombodil » Tue Jun 20, 2017 6:36 pm

I want to make a version of those big stand-up Park Chess sets where all the pieces are made from concrete with steel handles, and a game-clock that you have to press by hitting it with a big mallet.

So you would have to decide what move to make, heave the peace to it's location (removing any pieces you intend to take and heaving them to the side of the board) the running to the clock and hitting it with a heavy mallet to pass your turn.

It would be something like 10 minutes of speed chess with no clock delay. A Mix of strength, chess skill, and endurance.

There's a thing you do with cement, where you mix dry sawdust or chopped straw or coconut fibre with the mix, instead of sand, so you get a lighter but still strong material to cast objects with. Gardeners and landscape artists use it to make planters and troughs. I've always wanted to try it but haven't yet. There's a name for it, which I forget.

Yeah that was partially the inspiration for this. I wanted to find a way to more seamlessly integrate a physical and cerebral sport.

Now all I have to do is learn how to box and I can be mediocre at two things!
