The friends I (very) occasionally play board games with only ever want to play something we know and that's basically been Dead of Winter. We did play Robinson Caruso last week.

I think I'm done with cooperative games for awhile. I'm tired of playing agains the board.

What's wrong with Imperial Assault?

My guess is that FFG considers Imperial Assault a board game and Legion is more of a traditional miniatures game. Two different markets. With Legion they are trying to compete with games like Warhammer (40k and Age of Sigmar) and Infinity.

You would be accurate. Legion should cover bigger battles across a larger area.

I think FFG is just trying to fill out the roster some since its split with Games Workshop. Of course, FFG moving into the war game/minis market could have also predicated that split by making themselves a more direct competitor, so who knows?

I still haven't figured out which side wanted the split. But with how fast Runewars and now Legion have come out since the split it kind of seems like FFG didn't want to deal with GW anymore and just start their own thing.

You're probably right. Asmodee bought out FFG and they like to do things their own way. Also, a number of GW licensed games have been announced recently in partnership with other companies, so it seems like GW is ok with focusing on minis and letting other publishers handle their boardgames.
