Just as relevant as anything else on this thread:
I agree with Brodeur in that I prefer face-to-face communication - it's the most enjoyable and engaging.
HOWEVER, I also like digital communication, if only because digital communication is necessary to arrange times to hang out when face-to-face communication can occur. Without the former, I don't get the latter.
Like Dan, I feel like phone calls are basically saying "drop everything and talk to me right now", which is a bit presumptive in today's world. This is one of the reasons I don't make many phone calls (and generally don't expect immediate responses to text) - though I usually don't mind getting phone calls as much.
Edit: I also love Brodeur - he has good thoughts on the hobby, and his reactions are hilarious. About three orders of magnitude higher on the vulgarity scale than my preference, but it's generally worth it.
