Re: Fort Collins/Loveland/Greeley/Longmont, Colorado

I'm still in FoCo, and I'd definitely be interested in playing in a game with you at some point. At the very least it seems like it would be a fascinating experience. Also if we meet in person and hit it off I'd be down to open up a seat at One Shot Club, once we get that back up.

He's also been getting belligerent about people acknowledging that they're microtransactions at all. He's got his own personal definition and he's been grinding axes with anyone who won't use it.

Re: Episode 510

Helium 3 is extremely stable chemically - it doesn't do much with electron interactions, which is where the chemistry happens. The instability is all in the nucleus, where being short a neutron effectively leads the protons to push each other away harder than they otherwise would. This makes the ene...

Re: Happy Things Go Here

This obviously ignores the notion of making a car a unique color and shape just to make it stand out. There's still some of that with shape. The Qube certainly stood out, though mostly it did that by being fuck ugly, to pick just one example. Still there are some obvious downsides, and it's nice to...

Re: Episode 510

Liquid helium is still pretty useful just as a coolant.

That said, I struggle to think of a use of the helium reserve more awesome than a fleet of a thousand traincar-blimps.

Re: A classification system for games by challenge level and function

We cannot annihilate the difference between practicing for mastery, and simply purchasing advantages by equating the sale of your labor with that practice, in order to spare Magic the Gathering the embarrassment of being a game in which people pay for advantages. While we're at it, we can't come up...

Re: Episode 510

Wasn't going to go down this rabbit hole as there lies madness but you also have to account for the square cube law as the ship gets bigger. Volume increases faster that surface area when you scale something up. That said I'm impressed with Goodyear's blimp. Looking at the numbers you gave gives a ...

Re: Episode 510

To settle this once and for all. The liftling capacity of helium is .069 lb/ft^3. Say 15ft^3 per lb. A locomotive weighs 300-400 thousand lbs. So we are talking 4.5-6 million cubic feet of helium. A balloon 248 to 273 feet wide. Just for neutral buoyancy. That is a substantially smaller balloon tha...

Re: Random Video Game Thoughts

It's that old chestnut: "Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.", which applies far more broadly than to the obvious. Plus, there's the whole matter of the extent of argument needed to advocate for a position, which isn't directly applicable unless yo...

Re: Do you/does your company use Microsoft office

Google Docs and Sheet are very acceptable substitutes, but they are not Word or Excel slayers. I'm not sure I'd call Sheet an acceptable substitute. Every spreadsheet application I've used other than Excel has been nothing but problems for me, and while that might be a personal quirk I suspect it's...
