Re: Pathfinder Advanced Class Debate

Brawlers seem pretty strongly geared toward pugilists with a knack for improvisation (thus the unarmed attack progression and the ability to temporarily pick up feats on the fly to support whatever notion they come up with). Better defined than a Fighter, meshes better than the Monk. I'll totally g...

Re: Pathfinder Advanced Class Debate

but once again i am taking the post off topic. ...so.... I think the brawler and slayer do kinda outshine their "base classes" in terms of optimization. I'd still choose the base classes if i wasn't trying to optimize. I think that they are a little silly and the character concepts I would...

Re: Pathfinder Advanced Class Debate

Has to be played, no. I don't think anyone was saying that. But as an aspiring game designer I'm sure you can appreciate that a riff on the Oberoni Fallacy isn't helpful when discussing whether or not class X is better than class Y as they are written on the page. Well my thoughts I do not think fa...

Re: Pathfinder Advanced Class Debate

Yeah, and I can see how it would be taken that way. But that was definitely a general "The GM who does this is a twit" and not "Argentum is a twit". I try really hard not to snipe at other posters, and certainly not ones I don't know very well. No worries VA. There was just a se...

Re: Pathfinder Advanced Class Debate

I see where you are coming from FM. and I actually think we agree in our approach. In the games I run, I run them strictly by the book. If i disagree with a rule, well, its the rule and it trumps my idea of how it should be. I want players in my games to be able to pick up a book and in black and wh...

Re: Pathfinder Advanced Class Debate

Gotcha VA, thanks for the heads up. I probably would describe myself pretty close to Foul. Add in that I am an aspiring game designer (and who isn't these days) so I probably unintentionally go too far into questioning the "why"s things are done than is probably helpful for a straight up p...

Re: Pathfinder Advanced Class Debate

And my knee-jerk reaction has been to point out that no one is saying "Pathfinder sucks" in this thread, and thus the defense is annoying, irrelevant and disruptive. People have been pointing out specific weaknesses, yes, but with an eye towards improving a game they like, not as a reason...

Re: Pathfinder Advanced Class Debate

Obviously, this is subjective and while I agree, some players don't. Some players will never run away or stop fighting unless their character is dead, and when they're dead they'll sulk. For a lot, I won't venture to guess percentages, D&D/Pathfinder is about playing a tactical game with a stor...

Re: Pathfinder Advanced Class Debate

Edit...the below is just a boring rant. Just call it a "what a person will write when they have not had enough sleep". I think the major division here goes back to how people play the game. Yes this is the old and tired division that everyone brings out at some point in these conversations...
