Re: Episode 464 - Politics

Control over the maps and the ability to draw and design maps would be my biggest point. The layers of Maptools is just so nice to use. Plus the tabs on the side and the ability to jump between maps very, very easily. Granted, to be 100% honest, I haven't used Roll 20 in a few years, so, that might ...

Re: Episode 464 - Politics

I have to admit, I agree that Maptools is the best VTT out there. I'm using Fantasy Grounds, mostly against my better judgement, simply because I got outvoted by my group. To be fair, the fact that FG is now very well supported by WotC means that you can pick up one of the 5e modules and start playi...

Re: Episode 440 - Battered Group Syndrome

You don't have to conquer a place to export your culture there. The dominance of english and american culture in many places can be traced to our buisness and political dealings. If people in china understand english today it is likely because they deal with american companies who are sending their...

Re: Episode 454 - Passing Notes

I'm on the fence on this. Secrets are great. Secrets are also incredibly frustrating. One of the biggest issues in any game is being able to have enough information to make informed decisions. It's, IME, always a problem trying to get all the stuff that's in the DM's head out to the players. Add an ...

Re: Episode 434

And, let's not forget, that when you look at D&D's CR system (or earlier versions where monsters had "level"), it's flat out meant as a predictive system, not as a system that is going to produce guaranteed results. X characters of Y levels should expend Z resources in a given encounte...

Re: Episode 434

Seems to me like half the class wants to pin system problems on the GM, and the other half doesn't even want to admit it is a problem. My point in the first place was that D&D is not an easy game to balance, and that is a big deal because balance is what stops the game from being a tpk fest (or...

Re: Episode 434

Ok, slowly backing away from the "D&D suxxors" conversation, because, well, that's just never going to end well. :p Back to the original topic and predictions for the future. Let me start off with a bit of background. Sorry, this is going to meander a bit, but, I promise that I have a ...

Re: Episode 421 Satanic Panic Part 1

A bit behind the times here. :)

My first group included two pastors (including the nice lady that performed my wedding) so the whole SP was pretty foreign to me.

Funny thing. Thinking about it, I've had a lot of churchy friends in my groups from a broad range of denominations.

Episode 427 - Difficulty

There's a problem with difficulty that got left out of the discussion IMO. The idea of wanting the players to plan and come up with alternatives to just kicking in the door was brought up. Sure that's great. But IME what happens very often is the players come up with a plan that seems plausible to t...
