Re: Happy Things Go Here

Friday was my wife's third of six chemo treatments. I wrote a song about it. Wanna hear it? Here it goes: Whoa-oh, we’re halfway there Chemo, living with no hair (with apologies to Bon Jovi) That's as far as I've gotten. Things were a little crazy last week, so I didn't have time to finish it. Exce...

Re: Happy Things Go Here

Finally got around to placing new pickups in my old guitar. This makes me happy because A) the new pickups RADICALLY change the sound of the guitar for the better (seriously, it went from sounding terrible to sounding amazing) and B) I have now replaced or modified all of the electronics in the guit...

Re: Random Forum Thoughts.

Through several years while I was at the University of Saskatchewan, my winter gear, right down to 40 below, was a light wool sweater under a leather bomber jacket with a thin satin lining. My friends persuaded me I needed a ski jacket, and I found it not as warm -- not warm enough, in fact. The ni...

Re: Random Forum Thoughts.

Back when I was doing a fair amount of winter field work at hign elevations, I found out quickly that bundling more didn’t help, but dressing with the correct layers in the correct order meant that even temperatures well below freezing could be comfortable without much bulk. Of course, living at a t...

Re: Grumbly Things Go Here

Natural gas pumping station blew up yesterday, so they want everyone to turn down their heat to 65 in order to reduce demand until they get it fixed. While that's an arbitrary number, the idea is valid. So instead of turning in the heat down, they decided to turn it way up to "screw over"...

Re: TV shows that got better or stayed great (mostly) all the way through

Just finished the second season of Lore and it definitely improved. It went from essentially a video podcast with good actors doing poor re-enactments (like a not-funny Drunk History) to being a series of short films loosely based on folklore and/or historic events, and was much improved as a resul...

Re: What have you watched recently?

Just finished the second season of Lore on Amazon Prime. While I am a fan of the podcast, the first season showed that trying to directly adapt it to television doesn’t work well. The second season took an anthology show approach where historic events (or folklore and speculation surrounding histori...

Re: Grumbly Things Go Here

We lost one of my counterparts in San Francisco when she took another job within the company. We redistributed her work amongst the remaining staff. Another is out for the time being because he lost his house in the massive wildfires late last year, and is trying to get things sorted. We redistribut...
