Re: I HAVE THE DMG

Picked mine up on Canadian Not-Black Friday that still tries to ape BF because. This was the official "drop date" for "affiliated" stores -- but I have no idea what or where that list or criteria is. What I've seen, I've liked. Busy (work, actually running games, etc) so a long s...

In the Shadow of the Sword by Tom Holland Non-fic, an examination of the early years of the rise of Islam, and the decline of the Persian and Byzantine Empires. Holland is a "populist" historian, his Rubicon was an entertaining and easily readable history of Rome's transition from Republi...

I really enjoyed Under Heaven, but ever since GGK started writing pseudo-historical fantasies he has become one of my favourite authors.

Currently doing some "crime drama" reading with Ian Rankin's Tooth and Nail.

The Immorality Engine by George Mann.

The third Newbury & Hobbes tale, a little steam-punk, a little occult, Victorian England. So far they've been amusing romps, hopefully this one holds up.

Re: What are you reading now? Provide links PLZ

It's a re-read for me, but I'm trying out this electronic reading toy thing, and decided a "comfort read" was in order. I really must swear an oath not to duplicate my bookshelves electronically. The Blade Itself Book One of the First Law Trilogy, is an exciting, gritty fantasy novel, and ...

Re: Popular RPG Systems

Pre-released at GenCon, should be available now: The One Ring: Adventures over the Edge of the Wild , a Lord of the Rings RPG by Cubicle 7. This puts the "low" back in Low Fantasy. Set in the region around Mirkwood in the period after The Hobbit , characters are Dalemen, Beornings, Sylvan ...

Re: What are you reading now? Provide links PLZ

Well, the series started in -- 99? It seems like a long time ago, anyway. The Kings Blades are perhaps his strongest works: unlike most series each book has a slightly different tone, and they do away with the concept of the "omniscient narrator" -- events in one book often contradict the ...

Re: What are you reading now? Provide links PLZ

The King's Blades (and the King's Dagger) were written long after The Reluctant Swordsman. The Swordsmen trilogy takes modern day schlump "Wally", a dying man, to a strange world via a divine providence he does not believe in. A series of adventures and misadventures will follow. The World...
