In fact I like how in Fate, Dresden for example, you are all characters from your own story, and the group cohesion is informed by the adventures you had during other players back stories before the game started. I like that the reason you are what you start as you do is because the world is larger than the game, and I like the idea that someone had an awesome adventure during their down time.

While I only know what was shared on the show, it sounds like nothing, litterally nothing is preventing the complaining player from having had an awesome, or what ever other type of adventure, in their own down time too. I don’t think you did anything wrong by giving those players agency.
