* (1:26) Congratulating Atomic Array and Kicked in the Dicebags on their ENnie nominations. This leads into a question about the role awards play in consumer decision-making versus content producers simply enjoying the recognition.

* (12:53) Art, layout, and page design. How they help sell your product. Some legal considerations you need to work out with an artist so it’s clear who owns what. The best ways to compensate your artists, particularly when you’re on a tight budget.
* (24:45) Funding the project. Using your own money, the patronage model, or websites such as Kickstarter. How to get other people involved in supporting your work and rewarding them for their investment. Building a budget for your product.
* (35:22) Marketing your game. How to build it into the product right from the get-go. Building and utilizing a fan base to help evangelize. Keeping people excited and rewarding them for their effort.

The only thing I would note about the Ennies, is that it is a viewers choice of sorts. The subsection of gamers who are informed about the awards via podcasts, websites, etc are voting for the winners. It isn’t the elite of the gaming community determining the winners.
Dan: I believe in free markets to an extent, but what you should not be doing is price gouging professional hits. Your competition will use more than marketing muscle to get rid of you.
When I first read your comment, I was wondering what the heck you were talking about. Then I remembered that I joked about using mob hits to help fund a project. After that, I reread your post and got a good laugh.
On a previous podcast, you guys mentioned a neighbor that mowed the grass at night. On the latest Yog Radio (CoC) podcast, they had a neighbor that was mowing the grass at night, too. I know your two groups live in different countries so is there a secret agency spying on our podcasts?
Rick, we are looking into this. Fear not, should we discover anything that doesn’t sit well with us, we shall unleash a “special” arm of the TOFtBch network.
