Mr. Hicks, it’s SO great to hear that you put out free PDF versions of your games (or well the ones you solely own as opposed to Dresden). I hope you never lose that kind of connection to getting your stuff to the fans who can’t afford the hardbound copy, or anyone else who wants to play the game and can’t find it, or would actually play it simply because they stumble upon it or hear about it from a friend and “hey the digital copy is free!” It’s not about money anymore at that point, it’s about fans or even newbies enjoying something you created!

I’m of the same mind, though most of my product is art and writing related (and I’m certainly not remotely famous or well-known). My stuff is available for free on deviantArt and should I ever manage to publish books or the like, I’d have online copies available free of charge just like my short stories are now. But then, the whole concept of money frustrates me, along with the more obvious bigger fish of corporate greed and big-name talents that loose sight of what it’s like to be a real person. If something I created gets even one person’s attention, and better yet, made them laugh or think or even get teary-eyed… that, to me, is what it’s all about.

So rock on, Fred Hicks, rock on! I don’t even know anything about Dresden Files and after listening to you talk about it and the work you’ve put into the system itself, I am verrry interested in picking up the game! ^__^ Wish I’d waited and not picked up the D&D 4e set. D’oh. xD

Great show guys! Fred is an excellent interview and I appreciate having him on. Thanks for the reference – On Writing by Stephen King. I didn’t know about that and will look it up. I enjoyed the discussion of Amber Diceless. I’ve heard a lot about it and this interview just pushed me more toward actually checking it out.
Dresden sounds fantastic! I’ve not read any of the books but the more I heard about the game, the more I want to read the books. I agree with you about organic magic. It is so much more interesting. Once again, Thanks.
Keep up the great work.
Go Forth And Game,
tomg
