Fear the Boot is an irreverent, round table podcast about tabletop roleplaying games. In each epsiode we debate game-related issues, offer advice for improving your game, and poke fun at the hobby. Our cast changes from show-to-show — mostly based on host availability and insight on particular subjects — but we always assemble a group of dynamic individuals with divergent views, guaranteeing you’ll hear several perspectives on everything we discuss.
While we enjoy interviewing industry personalities or kicking around novel game mechanics, we are not a product-oriented or industry news show. Instead, we try to be system agnostic, offering ideas that can apply to almost any game. Even the examples we draw from our own gaming history are meant to demonstrate broader ideas in the context of a specific system or setting.
Fear the Boot was first imagined as a distributed version of the banter we were already having as friends, organized and moderated for public consumption. The concept had been in our minds for a while, but it was first discussed as a podcast in April of 2006. Our first episode was posted the following month. We’ve evolved quite a bit from those roots without losing touch with our desire to interact candidly with each other and our fans.
Since our first show, a vibrant community of “booters” has risen up and taken on a life of its own. Friendships have formed, games have started, and charities have been conducted — many of which have nothing to do with the podcast itself. Indeed, we feel the outstanding people that have coalesced around our hobby stand as its real legacy.
Thank you for stopping by, and we hope you enjoy the show!
