 Archie is getting married
I have never read an Archie comic book and honestly know next to nothing about the characters. I don't even know which or the girls is the blonde and which is the brunette. This though seems like a big PR move that will be undone, or will not be followed through on if the book is really about who he will choose. Still I have to say for a PR move I am intrigued enough to consider buying this when I have never bought anything Archie before except Punisher meets Archie. I find it more interesting though that the trend of CNN covering comic book events as news stories is continuing. http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/books/05/28/comic.book.archie.marrying/

I used to read Archie books as a kid. They're terrible.

I loved them as a kid. My prediction is that there will be an upset in the wedding, and he will wind up with Betty. Choosing Veronica over Betty is like choosing Ginger over Maryanne.

Sounds like a cheap PR move to sell some units. Kinda like the death of Superman. And maybe they'll reverse it a year or two later, just like they did the death of Superman! We can have the Archie divorce issue.

We can have the Archie divorce issue. The difference here is that the death and rebirth of Superman was actually a pretty good story. The radio play is a lot of fun. Granted, Doomsday was pretty lame as villains go, but the story arc was cool. I'm curious about the Archie story, however, since it was my understanding they were still in High School. The story mentions them graduating college. Have they been in college, or is this a move to age them abruptly, or does this story take place outside of Archie continuity (such as it is)?

 Re: Archie is getting married
Okay, so after some digging....
It's a six-issue mini-series. Issue one deals pretty much with the decision, proposal and initial reactions.
It's been fast-forwarded out of high school, through college, and past graduation; Archie is gainfully employed at the start of the series, at least.
Now, the weird thing is that it HAS to be a shuck-and-jive. I'm expecting a dream-sequence, personally.
After all, if they actually go through with it (be it a marriage to Veronica, OR a switch-hit to Betty [or hell, Jughead, as several wags have suggested]), then there is no more point to the series. Ever. Any comics about the subsequent years have completely lost all romantic drama.
Resolution is thus impossible.
Therefore, there will be no wedding. In fact, the plotline itself will be undone, as leaving it intact with no resolution would still mean that there's a canon declaration that neither girl will win in the next several years of comic-book time--so why bother reading?

Oh, and I hated the Death of Superman. The aftermath and so forth was cool, but the entire time I was reading it, I was screaming at the miscellany of heroes assembled, "You've got telekinetics and force-projectors! He doesn't fly! LIFT THE FUCKER TO ORBIT, ALREADY!" Requiring every last hero in the League, and the various other stand-bys, to all simultaneously suffer complete brain-lock, does not a good story make.

In rematches, it was revealed that Doomsday has a ranged attack. It would not have been that simple. But yeah, I agree. he was the lamest part of the story.
