 Star Wars: The Old Republic
SWtOR just went free to play. Still not cheap enough to bring me in to the tired old MMO model.
Color me, not surprised.

And this is why I wait a year before trying a pay-to-play MMO.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
I tried it in beta and found that it had everything I hate about Star Wars games and nothing I liked. I was frequently informed that my opinions were very much in the minority.
Is anyone still playing it?

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
If Star Wars created an MMO that was based on a serious space flight sim model, I'd cream in my pants. I want something that requires a decent joystick to run properly. I want a game that turns my keyboard into a virtual cockpit.
Someone needs to get George Lucas and Oleg Maddox in a room and command them to create TIE Fighter meets IL2-Sturmovik....and then take that freaky bitch online.
How is it that the industry still is stuck on the either/or concept with respect to flight sims, CRPGS, FPS, and MMO? Why can't we have all of those concepts folded neatly into one dynamic setting? And of all the setting out there, Stars Wars would utterly rock it.
I want to sign up for the Rebellion and blow the shit out of stuff with a B-Wing......or cobble together a hunk of junk, mod the hell out of it, and smuggle stuff. Or, rise through the Imperial ranks to the point where a Sith takes notice of my abilities.
And when I'm not flying missions, I want to walk around and have a FPS experience, if I feel like it.
I don't know if this sort of game would have mass appeal, but I guarantee it would have a serious hard core audience.
