 Not knowing a whole lot about bullet proof vests, is it normal to have that much mid drift exposed, male or female?

Generally on males it is easier, but it does protect the necessary organs and the general area people will shoot at. Plus the female version cost more since has to be specifically made because of the curves and thus covering everywhere is kinda difficult. And I remember wearing my dad's vest (he's a cop) and the gut is really thin

I know that the lower vests can suck to wear when seated... or at least an ill-fitted one can. My guess would be that it is better to have a less effective vest that gets worn than a more effective one that gets left in the trunk. Besides, it takes a long time to die from a gut shot.
