Re: Fear the Boot Writer's Guild
Hey all,
In the event you have room for another, I think I'd like to get in on this. I have wild hopes of writing something for publication, and I know I need to get better to produce something worth reading.
Assuming you have space for another, how does this whole operation work?

Re: Fear the Boot Writer's Guild
I want to apologize for not being on the past few FTBWG calls; my schedule is pretty wacky right now and leaves no time for writing. Hopefully I'll be able to get back in over the next few weeks, but I feel bad showing up without anything written.

Re: Fear the Boot Writer's Guild
Pretty much, PM me a good email address (preferably google) and your Skype username. I'll send you an email inviting you to the next meeting and giving you the link to the contact info document.
We use google docs and the google calendar to schedule (thus the preference for google information!). The meeting begins at 7:00 pm eastern time and runs until whenever we all finally shut up.
Each meeting follows a pretty typical pattern: we have a discussion topic and then peer review.

You've got a baby coming within the next month, plus you just started up a podcast. You're allowed to not write. Though we do miss you in the calls!

Re: Fear the Boot Writer's Guild
Next Meeting! July 28th, 7:00 pm Eastern (that's 6:00 central, 5:00 mountain, 4:00 pacific).
I'd like to take a moment to thank adicted2aa for giving me so many discussion topic ideas. These have been fantastic. I'd also like to thank SilverSeraphAE for creating that kick-ass 3 Dragon Ante taebl and leading what might have been the most expletive-inducing game of 3 Dragon Ante ever (many thanks to Aaron Stack for making all of those expletives...I guess...).
Discussion Topic: Themes in writing. Should a writer write a story then find the theme and add it? Find a theme and write a story around it? How not to club your reader over the head with obvious themes. How to keep from hiding it too deep.
Submissions: (Okay, yeah, I know I've got five listed here, but I'm anticipating a couple people won't have much to submit) Aaron Stack Adicted2aa Timespike JediSoth Leoff
Writing Prompt: When you go to get dressed one morning, you discover that there really is a skeleton in your closet. Write this scene—discover how it got there, why it is there, what to do with it now.

Or having read anything for that matter.

Re: Fear the Boot Writer's Guild
I just realized, while updating my FtBWG contacts list, that in the thing I submitted the protagonist has the same first name as one of the writers' guild people. Now, there are only so many believable names... so this is something that we do come across while reading... But would you prefer that I change the hero's name? I could do that.

Re: Fear the Boot Writer's Guild
I personally don't care either way. Like you said, there are only so many believable names, and if it really works for your character, I'd say keep it.

Re: Fear the Boot Writer's Guild
It seems I'll have to for a while anyway. I must have clicked a wrong button, because I can't open my file right now. Or the other files. "They" always advise explorers in the computer world to go ahead and try things, nothing can go wrong, it's only moving electrons -- hah!
Anyway. this is something I started years ago and am now working on finishing, which is why I already had given the characters names.

Re: Fear the Boot Writer's Guild
I noticed that as well with your file. One time it was a blank page and another it was perfectly fine. So, I downloaded it as a RTF so I can read it off line today. No edits, but at least its available when I want it. I'll shake my my finger at the monkeys running the switch board. -- TAZ
