Post Looking for books about non-US torpedo boats. MTB/Eboat stuf
I was a history major, and I love military history with an unintended focus on WW II history. But through it all, I never heard much about PT boats beyond PT 109. Going a bit further, all the major forces had torpedo boats (except the Soviets?) that participated in the war but there is very little information about them beyond specifications. I want to find out more about these boats , their crews, and their exploits. If you ever come across anything, let me know.

<puts on former library clerk hat>

The majority of published material that I've seen specifically about torpedo boats focuses on the PT. However, books on major conflicts that include a large naval component or even books on special forces or unique military units that operate around the world can have bits of what you're looking for.

I'd suggest starting with books about the history of the British Royal Navy or maybe a book on Axis naval units.

My historical interest is in spies and espionage so I don't know what I'd recommend from a personal standpoint.

I think that the PT boat might be an uniquely American invention. They were only possible due to an invention by an American, fiberglass boats. I think that their role was filled by destroyers in other nations.

Maybe by WWII. But destroyers were created in response to the invention of the torpedo boat.

The British and Germans both had large forces of MTBs (motor torpedo boats) during the Second World War. The British ones were called MTBs and the Germans were called E-Boats.

I can understand your confusion. [Not really, but it's a good excuse for a photo.]

Thanks for the links, I have a few of them, and have read a few of the others. I'm looking into the rest.

Keep em coming if you find any more.
