Why would reading on the kindle not count? Also why do you have a kindle if you don't read?

I read Fahrenheit 451 on my kindle. Which isn't as hypocritical as it sounds, really since the book is more about the death of knowledge than the death of, you know, books.

50 books a year isn't that many really. For example the first five books on that list? one week.

So I should be able to take my time and enjoy house of leaves if I do a bunch of quick reads. I have a ton of unread books, I'm sure I can find a few to pop through quick.

I have found that the number of books I read in a given amount of time has dropped almost steadily the older I have gotten. I used to read a book every day or so for many years. Now I'm lucky if I read one a month. Most of those are read aloud to family, as well.

The internet has a lot to do with this, I think. I probably read about as many words in a day, but they are not in book form.

It's probably also related to the same reasons I don't game as much. Older=more responsibilities=less free time.

It's also funny that my TV watching has similarly declined. I used to watch sitcoms! I can't imagine wasting a half hour on a sitcom nowadays.

Most of what I read is comic books.

I get most of my prose books in the from of audiobooks (I have a long commute).

But to give numbers I read an average of 100 comics a week, plus an audiobook per week. So 50 books a year is easy for me and my life style.

This is the kind of artificial goal that would ruin reading for me.

What counts as a book? Does a TPB of a comic? What about the individual issues? Also, are we taking book lengths into account? Each of the Wheel of Time books should count for at least 4 books, if not 5.

And that's not getting into talking about the issue of the quality of what you're reading, and whether or not it's actually going to challenge and enrich you. Some books I've quite liked were absolutely no good for me to read, but I liked them because they spoke to something comfortable in me.

Stop counting. When you finish what you're reading (or decide you're done with it), pick up a new one. I standardly have 3-6 books bought waiting to be read at any given time, and I get to 'em when I get to 'em.

I have found that this is exactly why I have only read about 50% of the books on my bookshelf. If I'm not counting and trying to reach a goal, I don't always pick up a new book right away when I finish one, I may read a book every few weeks, instead of always being reading something. And I like to re-read books over and over again, so that gets me no where.

Trying for 50 a year has gotten me more motivated to keep picking up books I haven't read yet and keep going. Its helping me clear out my backlog.

I never use a safe word on a first date.

It seems to matter to some people, so I tossed it out there.
Also, a it's a kindle fire, an android tablet. Using it to read books is really a side thought/bonus feature.

Actually, that represents half my problem. When I have a few minutes to kill, instead of picking up my kindle to read, I pick up my kindle and play a game.
