Post Re: Ray Bradbury
in high school, I didn't feel comfortable participating in a class project, my teacher liked me and as an alternative, my teacher gave me a book of all ray bradburys stories and told me to write a report on 5 of them. I about had an aneurysm. she let me keep the book til the end of the school year. im not gay, but if I was, id hope ray Bradbury was too.

edit: was ray Bradbury gay? not that it matters, id just like to get my facts straight if their not.

I still have a chrestomathy of his plays that my high school drama coach gave me...

He was a literary giant.

I remember being the only one in my class that was scared about how possible the world portrayed in Farenheit 451 was.

I really should try reading some of his other books. He's one of my authors on that list, along with Agatha Christie and Steve Martin.

Farenheit 451 is one of my top 10 favorite books of all time. I also enjoyed the Martian Chronicles quite a bit as well.

Considering that F451 was a criticism of the garbageland that is television and media, we're already there. True, there are no state-sanctioned book burnings in the US but, considering how few non-nerds actually read for enjoyment, we don't really need them.

My family has been very privileged to be able to meet many people who've done some great things. My parents met him at a birthday party for Forest J Ackerman and I had the pleasure of mixing paint for his beach home.

All I have to say is it's sad to see one of America's great writers go as there are few stepping up to the role.

The man was a remarkably skilled futurist. Read the short stories, "The Pedestrian" or "The Murderer" (both in Golden Apples of the Sun).

I've been stopped by cops for walking around my neighborhood at night, because they didn't get the idea of an evening stroll when everyone was watching TV. And the titular murderer's description of the people on the bus, completely ignoring the world around them so they can chatter on their portable phones? Written in 1953....
