Citizen Joe wrote: Alright, it looks like we skipped the in game planning and went right for the getting lost in dangerous neighborhood. so you have! Citizen Joe wrote: Anyway... these were my thoughts. 1. We should send word back to the Captain about what we're doing. We're doing work for another House and there could be political fallout from this. Since we're apparently all together at the gate, we should assume that we found another shipmate and sent word back with him. I'm happy to assume this if that's the track you want to follow, let me know so I can move the NPC timeline accordingly. Citizen Joe wrote: 2. Since we're reserving a spot on the ferry for tomorrow, and also having to send word back the the captain, we should have watched the first departure, specifically looking for the snakeskin boots. If he was there, then it would likely be because he was doing a job for a Theran House and was looking to drop off the goods. oh, I thought I made it explicit, they tracked the thief to this gate, he did not get the ferry. Citizen Joe wrote: About the Victim 1. We know it is a 'she' 2. She is allied with the elf's house... can't remember the name off the top of my head. House Narlanth, a name largely meaningless to Gavrael, and rich in meaning to Atrii. A House that provides most of the Empire's most powerful magicians and many of its most gift theortical magical researchers. Citizen Joe wrote: 1. There is miscellaneous other stuff that is apparently unimportant 2. There is a bag of 10 copper coins with water etchings a) We're being offered 400 times the value of the copper coins b) These may LOOK copper but actually be water elemental coins (value 1000 silver total) c) These may be magical coins So suspicious, does sentimental value count for nothing? Citizen Joe wrote: About the thief, I'll call him 'The Eel'. 1. Purple scarf. Purple dye is expensive so this is a ritzy thief. 2. Snakeskin boots. These are also expensive and not something you want ruined. They might even be magical in some way, maybe dry boots or thiefy related boots. flashy, trying to be memorable in apprearance rather than in deed...

Re: Earthdawn: Age of Legend (OOC Discussion)
That's why I think we should use the background players to cut off the unlikely (or undesired/boring) possibilities and then set a trap for the thief. If he spent the money, he'll know where. If he sold the coins, he'll know who bought them.
In a world of pattern items, sentiment is a weakness.
My point about the Ferry is that the thief may have led authorities to the Broken Quarter so that they wouldn't be watching for him elsewhere (like the ferry). And if this is a political gambit, I'd hire a thief to slough blame off on the barbarians and secretly recover the prize for my own purposes. By checking in on the ferry, and leaving a man stationed there, we close off that route (or at least narrow it).

Re: Earthdawn: Age of Legend (OOC Discussion)
All good points, though as has come out before we disagree about Pattern Items.
What I can tell you is that you know some of what the thief was wearing and that he left through this gate this morning.
What he did next is up in the air.

The Werefrog was thinking: what if you drew that picture as all of us cosplaying as our characters?

The Werefrog meant the duck for Lord Foul's Avatar dressed as a bald dwarf, The Werefrog (a frog) dressed like the K'stalaami and so on, not our real faces.

Re: Earthdawn: Age of Legend (OOC Discussion)
Citizen Joe wrote: With a heavy sigh, he breaks the news to the girl. "You don't choose to become an adept, the magic chooses you. Now, maybe it has chosen you, and you just weren't listening." this is the Pattern Items thing all over again It is not uncommon to be Initiated into your discipline by someone. They help shape the magic in the right direction. Hell, some elves walking their Paths just turn around one day and say "I'm not a Warrior anymore, I'm an Elementalist" and start over. Though they are an extreme case - and somewhat irrelevant as we have no elves in the group. Still you made you laugh!

One of my friends is interested in joining once he gets his new phone and can access the forum by tapatalk!
He's thinking thief, which plugs in some trap detecting talents we are sorely lacking for when you eventually explore a kaer!
Edit - a Creanan (Egyptian) Elf Thief - on the run because of a slight difference of opinion about tomb raiding
