You'll note that in the original description, I explicitly referred to drivers who are doing BELOW the posted limits, in conditions that would allow for normal speed. So yes, your exceptions certainly apply.

I run red lights too. You want to sit there waiting for a carjacker to come stick a pistol in your face, go right ahead. Personally, if it's after a certain time, in certain neighborhoods, stop lights function as stop signs. This goes doubly so if I'm not packing. Stop signs also become Yield signs.

That does nothing to invalidate my point.

If I come up to an intersection and the light is yellow, and if I can stop before it turns red (without causing an accident by slamming on my brakes), I do. When I was younger, that was what almost everyone did every time. It was unusual to see someone go through a red light at an intersection. Now it happens, pretty much every time I get to an intersection. The light turns red, and a few cars just go through it. It just smacks of a pervasive "I can get away with it, so why not do it" attitude that seems to be growing incrementally over time.

Huh. That's not the case here. Individuals running a red light are rare, and those doing so are not seen just as normal parts of the traffic flow--they're dubbed assholes. Of course, we're starting to get positively British with the number of traffic-cams, so that might have something to do with it....

I noticed it happening a lot when I was a kid. One of the neighbors was driving me somewhere and we got pulled over even though it was yellow when we entered the intersection. I started watching and people blew through them all the time. I have no definite numbers, but in my experience people have always done that.
