Descent: Freespace & Freespace 2 Multiplayer
Does anyone around here ever play Descent: Freespace or Freespace 2 these days? I've been wanting to play those in multiplayer for years. I'm not likely to bring back the FtB Night of Carnage right now, but it would be nice to see if I could find a few people with whom to play these games on occasion. You can legally buy and download the games at gog.com. No DRM what-so-ever!http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/freespace_expansion/http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/freespace_2Since Volition has not had servers to support the game for many years, these days you need Hamachi to emulate LAN online. https://secure.logmein.com/products/ham ... nload.aspxI do not currently have Freespace Open, but I plan on getting around to installing that. There are some really awesome conversion mods out there for assorted SciFi franchises. And of course, making my own mods sounds like it would be interesting. http://scp.indiegames.us/http://www.fsoinstaller.com/

... *looks at watch* ... *tumbleweed* ... *grows beard* ... Oh, come on. I did a search and there are a few of you who have mentioned this game with some fondness. Anybody? Please?

Re: Descent: Freespace & Freespace 2 Multiplayer
Whizerd I've not played those games for years but I own both from GOG and would possibly be interested in some multi-player myself. I used to play X-Wing Alliance on a LAN with buddies but they were never into Freespace so much. The only problem I have is time honestly. I've got so many games going and so many other irons in the fire that I'd have to know in advance when you wanted to play so I could block out some time to play with you. Otherwise though, sure I'd definitely interested!

Re: Descent: Freespace & Freespace 2 Multiplayer
Well, I'm busy with RPG stuff on Sundays and Tuesdays. Mondays and Wednesdays I have school earlier in the day, though I might have time for Freespace in the afternoon/evening. I'm completely free Thursday-Saturday.
School doesn't start again until next week, so any time this week (with the exception of Sunday and Tuesday) is fine with me. When do you guys want to do it?

I won't be able to play this until the week starting June 4th because I've got a ridiculous amount of work and family stuff going on. Everything should be cleared up by then though. I typically have Monday and Wednesday evenings free and can clear up a weekend evening to play if that's what works best. What do you think about Wednesday, June 6th?

I think I can work with that. I would likely get home from school around 5:30 CST.

Will I need any particular software other than the game itself (from GOG so it's patched to whatever point that release was) and Hamachi?

Well, there is the matter of the VoIP software. Either Skype or FtB's Ventrilo server would work.
Eventually, I might start experimenting with Freespace Open. For now, let's keep it simple.

I'm on afternoons now, so pretty much any day that ends in a Y is a work day now.
