Did you see my post about illusions and modrons? I just want to be sure the evidence we have is true, since we have almost nothing to go on. If Box is immune to illusions, mind-affecting magic and negative energy stuff, then all the indications are that what he perceives is actually real. But that seems rather unlikely, and the implications are quite baffling.

If this is a puzzle it has no apparent clues.

Box is immune to illusions, mind-affecting magic, and negative energy stuff. That is correct. According to Yul's assessment, his mind has been transferred into the jewel. There is no evidence of any hardship to his body, but it appears to be vacant.

If he were actually on another plane, Yul would not be able to contact him (so far as I know). You're still able to converse with him, if you can think of anything to ask. If not, I'll push forward with more on Monday.
