That's a good point. Get them into roleplaying and making interesting game decisions before you just wall-of-rules them.

Though as an engineer I came to love crunch and math. My games tend to be part experiment in how various game mechanics influence narrative.

Unfortunately night court involves very little impassioned argument and very much leaning against a wall and waiting.
Fortunately that makes taking texts and calls quite practical.

It sad that I just now got the fact that they were calling John while he might have been at his job rather than watching 'Night Court'. I don't know why my brain went there
