Make that a third for Mistborn. If you've never read Roger Zelazny's Amber Chronicles, it's worth checking out [easiest way to find the first five books is to hit the metro library.] -- TAZ.

Re: wanted: new Epic fantasy series
I voted WoT because I enjoyed it a great deal, but if you'd like somthing epic and at the same time really funny, I'd nudge you towards the Discworld series if you haven't read it yet. The Color of Magic is the introductory story, and usually priced really cheap in Paperback.

I'll also chime in on Mistborn.

Re: wanted: new Epic fantasy series
I like the Song of Ice and Fire series well enough, but the last two books really make me shy away from reccomending it. Especially Feast for Crows.
So I went with other, and ask this: Have you read the Codex Alera series, by Jim Butcher? First book being Furies of Calderon? If not, then do so.
... Be warned, the first book isn't spectacular. At all. In fact, it's a bit weak. The other five, however, are at least awesome, and some could even be considered super special awesome.

Read Elric of Melnibone.
I love Game of Thrones and recommend it highly. I gave up on Wheel of Time when several books passed with nothing really happening.

Mikel wrote: Read Elric of Melnibone. This as well. The entire Eternal Champion saga (Elric, Corum, Hawkmoon, etc.) are all worth reading and make up a multiverse in a scope comparable to the DC comics universe. You could take a chainsaw to Wheel of Time and not cut out enough of the lip-pursing and braid-tugging.

The Dragon Knight series, by Gordon Dickson. The first is called The Dragon and the George.
I think it's an epic. There's at least eight books.

In a slightly different vein: Dan Simmons' 'Hyperion' series is science-fiction, but it's the sort of sci-fi that's SO advanced it might as well be magic. And Hyperion is my favorite book ever. Period. No others need apply.

They're more than half the reason that Captain's Fury and Princeps' Fury are the best books in the series.
