Post SBurb - The Homestuck RPG: Alpha
So, this has been the pet project of a good friend of mine. We like to talk game theory. He was the one who insisted I read this "Homestuck". This is part of the reason why.

He's asked me to help go over it. This task was twofold. While he wanted me to read it to check for typos and ease of reading, he also asked me to find the holes, the exploits, and make them apparent to him. He asked me to break his system.

And so I am here.

Go nuts.

C'mon, don't be shy. My friend wants brutal honesty.

OK - first thoughts (after a fairly quick read-though and not having read homestruck web comic).

I like it for its simlicity and the fact that it uses a small pile of readily-found dice (I'm a fan of systems that don't try to pile in a ton of different dice). The mechanics seem to be simple and fluid.

I do worry about how they'll impact on a certain type of player. This is one I've encountered a few times which is the player who wants to min-max/strategise every roll but who doesn't have a good head for probability. Giving them the option to split their bonus over multiple dice would be lethal for getting anything done fast. Giving them a time limit to decide on how to split might help the flow but would probably annoy them.

That aside, and acknowledging that it's definitely a problem that a lot of groups won't have, I really like it :)

I'm thinking about setting up a game of this in the PBP forum as a testing ground.

Apologies, this semester has been kicking me in the teeth.

Mid may, the designer of the game will be starting his first test run of the game, which I will be participating in. I will start organizing a session run in the PBP board here shortly afterwords.
