Yar! Pirates of the Spanish Main
So, to mix it up a bit, my friends and I are looking into doing an all night Pirates of the Spanish Main draft tournament next weekend. None of us actually played the original game and we don't have any of the ships, so we're thinking about printing off all the ship/crew stats on cardstock and randomizing them into boosters (more for the sake of time than anything. Looking through 300+ ship stats would take all night.). We'll print off islands (or use Catan pieces) and treasure stat cards too. Wooden ships pulled from the Game of Thrones board game will work as directional markers. Obviously, we'll lose the relative ship size mechanic, but I think it will still be functional enough to play.
Board Game Geek seems to have all the information we need to simulate the game. We've got the rules summary for the base game and each expansion, the ship stat cards, the crew stat cards, and some unique treasure cards.
The idea of doing this might be more fun than the actual game.
...but I'm excited anyway. I need to come up with some ideas for tournament play. We might just run through a list of scenarios and earn points for each one or we could do a series of skirmishes leading up to a big alliance battle. I think we'll have four or five people.
