 Teach me Savage Worlds
I'd like to try savage worlds with my regular group. This means I will probably have to run it. Since I find it hard to learn the rules of a system just by reading, is anybody willing to run a tutorial game by post?

 Re: Teach me Savage Worlds
I'm not generally good with play by post, but I am pretty fluent in the SW rule set and would consider giving it a go. What kind of game were you thinking?

 Re: Teach me Savage Worlds
It doesn't have to be spectacular just something so I can learn the rules in manageable chunks. As to what to play, you got any ideas you've been itching to try out? What genre's do you typically enjoy running?
Here's some games I've been interested in playing but haven't got the chance to: -A group of traveling bards/actors trying to make a living -A superhero game -A post-apocalyptic game -A superhero/greek hero/adventurer academy: children learning how to be heroes, understanding their individual talents and how these talents work within a group
Character concepts that I've never to played: -A pony express/The transporter/The Post Man courier style character. no real setting in mind really just a guy who gets stuff from point a to point b -A living legend. I've always played the farm boy done right or the wandering warrior but I've never played a character that is known in more that a handful of towns and may have tall tales told about him.
If these ideas don't interest you please feel free to add your own. You are running it after all.

 Re: Teach me Savage Worlds
I do enjoy me some post-apocalyptic gaming. Maybe a deliveryman/mail carrier trying to re-establish lines of communication in the post-apocalyptic world?

 Re: Teach me Savage Worlds
That's cool with me. So do you want more players or would it be easier for you one on one? Do you want to build setting around character or character based on a setting?

 Re: Teach me Savage Worlds
In real time games I prefer multiple players (3+). As a play by post I can go either way but one on one might be easier.
How do you want to handle combat? I'm unfamiliar with how combat is done in PBP as far as round tracking and tactics go.

 Re: Teach me Savage Worlds
I haven't played much PBP myself but we could do it Luke Crane Style(I thinks this is in burning wheel). Basically I give you three rounds worth of simple actions(Attack, aim, Block, etc) along with some rolls then you describe the action. Do you think that could work?

 Re: Teach me Savage Worlds
Yeah that could work. Is there anything specific you want in the setting/plot/theme that I could work in? I figure if it's just one on one, I may as well build the story to what you want for your character, with my own twists and surprises thrown in of course. Even a basic goal would be helpful to get me planning while you flesh out the character concept.

 Re: Teach me Savage Worlds
A concept I had was that it's a few decades after the "event"(whatever you choose that to be), my guy is a drifter, no goals except surviving. He stays the night in an abandoned house somewhere in southeast U.S.A. While there he finds a letter ready to be mailed, which he decided to open and read just for something to do. It's a letter from a grandmother to a young child. The letter changes him, it makes him sad that this little girl never got to read it or get the plastic wrapped loonie that was also in the letter. He decided to see if he can get the letter to her. The problem is the address on the letter is for western canada. It's going to be a long trip and he's not sure if the girl is alive or not but he's going to try.
In order get food and shelter from the towns he visits, he offers stories, news, or to take letters to a town to would be along the way.

 Re: Teach me Savage Worlds
Alright, I can work with that. So the game will be about the character's trials and tribulations along the road. I think I've got a general idea for a story. It will need a bit more fleshing out, but a lot of that can be done as we go.
