I just can't recommend one of them, is all. I understand your objection to the Christian stuff, but out of sheer curiosity, what's your objection to the biography of Bass Reeves? By pretty much any account he's up there with Robert Peel in the pantheon of honorable lawmen. He was also a successful black man at a time when racism was rampant.

But something to consider: a lot of folks are picking stuff for other categories because they want me to be the guinea pig for them. Feel free to use that logic, if you'd like.
