Mal and I played Last Night on Earth last night with a few of our friends. Mal and I were the zombies, and lo and behold, we actually managed to win the scenario we were playing. It was kick ass watching us suddenly shove ten zombies into the manor house.

Though, really, we only won because the other players screwed up. They forgot to exchange items between Heroes, so the item that could have saved them was hanging out on a dude that was nowhere near the manor house.

It was really frustrating, however, because on about the third or fourth turn, I suddenly had two of the same card that I couldn't ever really play. Which meant that it was all on Mal to draw cards.

We stopped trying to have two people play the Zombies---it's more fun if only one person runs them. There's not enough to do if it's two.

:( Shadows Over Camelot.

I sad face because I won. We played a six player game (five people had played before and one new guy) with the traitor rules on Friday. I was playing King Arthur and ended up being the traitor, so I was quickly able to get rid of the three special white cards I started with at the Excalibur quest. The group made some poor decisions early on and spread themselves too thin across the different quests. They probably would have been okay if I hadn't been encouraging adding catapults as our bad actions the whole time.

Things got interesting two turns from me getting Excalibur when one of the players accused the new guy of being the traitor. The new guy had been making some not so optimal choices and even though we discussed it as probably just an unfortunate fact of him being new, the other player still went through with the accusation. Flip one white sword. Suddenly everyone else was suspicious and I got them to waste another good action accusing the accuser the next turn. Flip the only remaining white sword to black. Two players later, I throw down my Fate card and reveal myself as the traitor, forcing players at the Saxons and Pict areas to both lose both of their quests 4 cards in. I also had Excalibur at that point and the next player drew an Excalibur quest card, so the five surprise catapults in two turns lost them the game.

That game does not feel good when the traitor wins like that. I felt kind of bad for winning. Everyone had a bad taste in their mouth after the round of accusations and then the unpreventable loss. Normally when I pull this game out, I have >50% new players so we just play without a traitor (usually, I deal out the loyalty cards anyway, but with the traitor card intentionally removed). I feel like Shadows might get shelved for awhile.

Due to scheduling conflicts in my normal Pathfinder group, those od us who show up have been playing a lot of Runewars, Twighlight Imperium and Wrath of Ashardolon.

It's funny because in the last three games I've played of this the new player was the traitor and would win because the rest of us would chalk up their "bad" decisions to being new

Got to play King of Tokyo and Dice Town this weekend. Both were really good and have gone on my "pick these up!" list.

King of Tokyo is really a very quick dice game; they include a board and some character stand-ups largely because they wanted to call it a "board game" instead of a dice game. You could play it with dice and pennies, honestly -- the entire interaction with the board is "put your guy on the board, or take him off." That's more humorous than criticism, though, because the artwork for the game is really good and the game is a ton of fun. Also very quick, even with large numbers of players.

Dice Town is a bit more complex, but I greatly enjoyed it as well; it's also ultimately a dice-based game (you're each rolling five custom dice to build poker hands) but there's more interaction with the board and accoutrements of the game. Interestingly, this game runs more quickly as you add more players. Loved this one too -- we kept laughing throughout.

Play Shadows over Camelot a lot. My wife and I play Zombies!!!. with some alternate rules.

We also recently purchased Dreadfleet. Still in the painting process, but I'll let you know if it's any good after the first game

While I'm not actually playing it, I got a copy of The Werewolves of Millers Hallow. I'm going to try it out at my fiancee's Halloween party.

Redeemed Shadows Over Camelot with a no traitor game this weekend. We screwed ourselves over by trying to do the grail quest immediately after defeating the dragon, but it was a satisfying massacre.

We followed that up with some Arkham Horror. We were doing really well and then got screwed over with a series of monster surges and the mythos card where double gates open for every turn. That ended up summoning Shub-Niggurath and we died in a glorious hail of thoroughly ineffective bullets.

 It was a good weekend for gaming.

Got to try Panic Station and Witches' Brew today. The former was okay -- sort of -- but it really ended up feeling like an overly-complicated Betrayal at House on the Hill with one scenario and incredibly badly-written rules. (Major rules should not be implied, nor should they be left to guesswork!) Decent concept, but awful execution.

Witch's Brew was really good, however. It's a bit like Race for the Galaxy in its bidding system, but it's very quick, quite fun, and inspires wonderful friendly table-rages. Highly recommended!
