Sun Titan is a bomb in my opinion. 6/6 Vigilance and recurs enchantments and your low curve creatures.

I had the same problem, my "bombs" were a stampeding rhino, cudgel troll, and aven fleetwing. I had a greatsword that I got out quite a bit, so it made up for the lack of awesome.

A, I understand now. I got a Crumbling Colossus, but he didn't make the cut. The guy I lost too in the first round of the finals had a Grave Titan, Rune-scarred Demon, and the Fact or Fiction sphinx. So yea, I didn't feel bad about loosing.

Went 2-3 with a deck I made out of decent white and shitty green because I popped a Garruk. Even so, did not lose a single game but against a planeswalker or a titan.

Got my yearly magic event out of my system. The game has always been maligned for the means that Wizards has used to monetize it, but Mythic Rares have made Constructed a $1000+/year affair and made Limited a contest to draw them, first in your packs and then out of your deck.

Sold the cards I popped for the price of admission, thanks to the Garruk. So it wasn't a financial waste but it kept me sour on the game, other than Pauper online, until the next time my friend gets me to the FLGS to do a core set prerelease.

Whenever someone brings this up I like to remind them that there has always been expensive cards because they are constructed worthy. Before the mythic rarity was introduced there were plenty of over-priced cards because they were seen in the pro circuit. The mythic rarity is Wizard's finally admitting to printing less of certain rares because of their power level.

It has not impacted the secondary market all that much. Planeswalkers, when introduced to Lorywn as rares, were at a starting price of 30. It's pretty much the default price to planeswalkers until they are proven worthy or not.

Before mythic rarity you had an amazing amount of cards at high prices. During the Time-Spiral/Lorywn standard you had:

Tarmogoyf - 40
Bitterblossom - 30
Thoughtsieze - 25
Lorywn Planeswalkers - 15-25 range
Dual lands associated with Faeries, Dorn Rock, or Merfolk - 15
Demigod of Revenge - 20
Figure of Destiny - 25
Chameleon Colossus - 25

I could keep going, but I think I've made my point. Playing standard competitively can be expensive, but you should be able to trade your previous deck to fuel the cards for the next. I spend maybe 400 a year on magic cards because I use my collection to trade for my next deck idea.

You would be amazed how many .25 cent rares have jumped to 15 dollars because someone figured out a way to break the format with them. You have to be creative when you're on a budget, that's half the fun in my opinion.

People that complain that you need to invest a lot of money in magic to be competitive don't know how to do two things:

1. Trade

There are plenty of online trade communities that are full of wonderful people that do not rip. I am currently a member of mtgsalvation's trade community and I only have positive responses. It's quick and easy. Most people go off of current market value of the cards. Total 'em up, send 'em out. Trading with any kind of store you will automatically loose at least 20% value at best. That's why they never see my cards.

2. Deck design

Currently in Standard, since the Jace 2.0 and stoneforge bannings, there are a plethora of budget decks that are making there way into top 8's around the world. A lot of infect, extremely cheap except for Inkmouth Nexus' (but when you have to spend 80 on four cards out of a 120 dollar deck, not too bad in my opinion), white weenie, elves, goblins, red deck wins, and a couple odd combo decks.

You can easily play a deck that when piloted correctly and designed with a decent sideboard for your local meta, you should easily be able to compete.

I understand with RPG's you only need to buy a couple books and you can play it the same way for years. Magic is not that game, it constantly changes, evolves, and you have to change with it or you get swept under the carpet. I understand it isn't some people's cup of tea. For that reason I would highly suggest you look into playing Commander, John.

When a new set comes out, more than likely, you'll only need to get two or three cards, and only a single copy of them. It's an amazingly fun format that you can play with friends casually or competitively.

I think this is the first post I've ever made on this website that consisted of more than three sentences.

Sure thing, I just started on MtG. Finally got tired of my FLGS's crowd (lots of guys that have been playing forever/aspiring PT players, so they have everything).

Let me think on it for a couple of days. That's really just my standard wants, I'll put together some EDH stuff.

So I don't know if this is the place to be asking this but...

Whats the point of EDH?

Not the rules. I understand the rules. The point.

Why would anyone want to build a 100 card deck with only 1 copy of any given card. That seems so arbitrarily random that there is no way you are gonna get the cards you want at any given time unless you make a deck built around searching for cards. And if you are gonna do that anyways... why not just play a different format so you don't have to?

I don't get it. I mean, I did stop playing magic way back in Darksteel, but this past week I played a few games of Peasant with a Rack deck, which I quite enjoyed, and a game of EDH with a zombie deck - a zombie deck I was told has won its owner quite a few games - and was completely turned off to the game.

I just... don't get EDH at all.
