I can't believe we missed this... Don't Rest Your Head. A twisted horror show wherein players balance insanity, insomnia and exhaustion to bend reality and deal with the problems keeping them awake. Questionnaire-based character generation, dice pool mechanics.

I see that Smallville, Leverage, and The Laundry are missing from the list.

Got any write ups? I prefer a personal synopsis from experience to a long company text. I know there are some differences between Cortex and Cortex+, but I'm not an expert on the distinction.

Here's my elevator pitches for them - Note I haven't played The Laundry, just read it.

Smallville - A game of superhero soap opera drama based on one variant of the Cortex+ system. Characters are defined by their beliefs, relationships, and powers. Character creation is done via an almost minigame like collaborative building of a relationship map combined with the use of lifepaths. Conflict is a roll/keep system.

Leverage - A game of capers based on the popular show of the same name. Another variant of the Cortex+ system. Characters are stated out based on their abilities and role within the group. The system makes extensive use of unique abilities (talents) and flashbacks to emulate the TV show.

The Laundry - A BRP variant that lets players play in the word of Charles Stross's Atrocity Archive novels. Modern day tech workers fighting both the horrors from beyond, but also the bureaucracy inherent in modern IT cubicle work. Think Dilbert meets Cthulhu.

Thanks for the info, updated. Didn't find a good link for The Laundry though.

Here are a couple that I would suggest adding:

Corporation - Originally published in the UK by Brutal Games, it has been brought to the US by Mongoose. Set in a 26th century post-cyberpunk distopia, players take on the role of an Agent for one of the world's five main superpowers, each a corporate conglomerate. As a street level executive, PCs do the jobs that can't be done behind a desk. Crunch moderate and setting heavy. The setting is more like Demolition Man than Blade Runner. System uses all RPG dice. Success is determined by rolling lower than a set threshold determined by PC Stat + Skill. On a 2d10, rolling double 0 (ten) is a critical failure and rolling double 1 is a critical success. http://www.corpgame.com/

Twilight: 2013 - Third edition update of the original Twilight: 2000 property originally developed by GDW. Set in an updated post-nuclear conventional war Twilight: 2013 simplifies the original wargame-level complicated rules set of the 1st and 2nd edition. Rules now utilize what is called a Reflex System which allows for White Wolf-style storytelling up to more crunch-heavy tactical combat. The setting itself has been completely revised and has moved away from the original Cold War motif to deteriorated Sino-American relations. It's also more a survival game than a military ops simulator. As of December 2010, the publisher, 93 Games, has gone out of business but the rule book is still available on many store shelves and in PDF format. http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product_info.php?products_id=58794

Thanks! Always glad to add new toys to the list.

Also added Classroom Deathmatch and Ocean to the list, both are freebies with option to support the author by buying the book version of the rules.

Added Cosmic Patrol from Catalyst Game Labs as well.

Pre-released at GenCon, should be available now:

The One Ring: Adventures over the Edge of the Wild, a Lord of the Rings RPG by Cubicle 7.
This puts the "low" back in Low Fantasy. Set in the region around Mirkwood in the period after The Hobbit, characters are Dalemen, Beornings, Sylvan Elves, Dwarves from the Lonely Mountain, and maybe the occasional Halfling wanderer. The map of the region plays a big part of the game, and "wizards & clerics" really aren't player character options.

It uses a unique small die-pool mechanic, with a specially marked d12 and d6s.

Doug.
