Mystery game - need help at the con!
Greetings,
It's a damn shame that Stacey and Julie, and Stacey's daughters and friends, are trapped away from gaming for most of the day at the con, chained in a tiny concession booth all alone in the basement. So, a few of us have come up with a little mystery game to let them have some kind of gaming throughout the day on Friday and again on Saturday, a frivolous distraction that is somehow supposed to make up for all their suffering.
And we need your help - yes, all of you!.
The mystery game hinges on delivering between 40 and 60 "clues" to the concession booth, spaced throughout slots 1 and 2, each day. Now, I have no intention of walking those stairs 60 times to space out some clues, so I am going to need your help.
I will print the clues on slips of paper. All you have to do is take the paper downstairs if you happen to be going that way. I will likely be gaming, and don't want to be disruptive, so if you see me, tap on my shoulder and I will quietly hand you a slip of paper. If it is too soon for the next clue, I will rudely shoo you away.
Just look for the tiger-in-a-bonnet picture on my badge.
Sample clue slip: "2:30 PM - Churcher is chased from the building and stoned to unconsciousness with loose pea gravel."
Put enough of these bits of nonsense together, and a story emerges.
For those of you who just want the mechanics of gaming, you can just take the slip down and quietly hand it over. For those of you who like to play
in character, I
strongly encourage you to
tell Stacey and Julie
all about the crazy thing you just "saw". In fact, do it in an atrocious French accent! That brings the funny every time!
Just remember, please, to hand the slip of paper over when you are done! We don't want to screw with their sense of reality (mostly). If you tell this whopping big story about Churcher being pelted with pea gravel, then hand over the paper, they go "oh, I get it, ha ha ha." If you tell this whopping big story about Churcher being pelted with pea gravel, then do NOT hand over the paper, you've just created confusion and delay.
Besides, the whole thing is a word puzzle, so they kind of need the paper clues to put it all together when/if they have time, not try to remember all this idiotic crap while they are working. And, I don't think I have to say this, but
if there is a line, for Bog's sake don't tell a long story! Just get on with it!
Final note: if this game proves no fun, or they just get too busy to want to play any more, the game will stop right away, and I will be giving everyone the brushoff. Just fair warning. I want this to be fun for Stacey and Julie, not a duty.
After the con is over, I'll post the clues so everyone can play, and the solutions, too. This is planned to run throughout the first two sessions each day, so they can give their "solutions" just before the last session. Post here or PM me if you are interested, just so I can be reassured that I won't have to walk up and down those stairs 50 times. (Seriously, I won't do it. I'll just drop a bunch of clue confetti at 10 am and tell them to call me when they figure it out. I'm surly in the morning.)
So, hey, let's play!
